It's the thrill in the end. In that moment when something stolen becomes mine or is it? That's the bliss I desire.

After days of travel, off the coast of the Sandora River, to the Western Rocky Coasts, the anchored Black Barron stood in the horizon to the band of bandits who'd returned to their new 'base' of operations. Over the last week, Jackal had left Gilbard aboard the ship to handle organising the rooms and setting up of his own 'lab' for his medical practice, whether it'd be temporary or not. With the way things were advancing, it'd be soon necessary for Jackal to move on from the coasts of Sandy, after the amount of marine activity increasing, it was as if the desert's themselves had picked up a new form of policing. Parking the camel's two meters off from the ship, the Bandit Posse tied their beasts of burden's to makeshifts wooden sentinels dug into the ground from previous travels, demounting their beasts of burden and heading aboard the ship. Scaling the wooden plank that connected the ship to the land, Jackal's men trailed behind, dumping the spoils of their collective raids across the decks, wasting no time to start the celebrations. "Boss. You coming to drink with the guys!?" Sinbad shouted across the deck. "Shishishi... I'm a light weight. I'll drink an ale or two but I need to drop off this 'cargo' to Gilbard first to heal Jiro." Jackal responded. "Ah! Gotcha. Okay Captain. I'll save ya a drink!" Sinbad shouted. Picking up the tightly roped woman, Jackal strapped her over his shoulder, and descending below the deck one level. Traversing the ship's hallway, Jackal finally stumbled across the small mess hall, where usually the crew would've eaten their meals but in the last few days, Gilbard had converted it into his place of operations. Pushing through the blinds, Jackal walked over to the patient's rest area and dropped the woman onto one of the vacant beds. "It wasn't easy... She was tough cookie to catch. Luckily I had some help at the casino." Jackal stated. "And I end up striking big." Jackal concluded, removing the sack that was placed over Mo's face. "I think her poison might be useful in future battles ahead. Which brings me my next question, have you thought about my offer? If I had you as my crewmate, I know you'd be an interesting addition... Gilly." Jackal inquired smirking widely.

Gil had found the Baron to be rather cozy once he got used to it. He had been used to the transient life for quite some time, but having a place where he was safe from the prying, persecuting eyes of the public had it's charm. A place to set up shop, so to speak. He had taken over one corner of the dining area and made it into a small clinic. He had had his eyes on a particular private room for a clinic, but as a guest he wouldn't intrude that much. He was here because once again, some poor fellow had fallen to some rather nasty poison. He couldn't seem to get a beat on this one either. It had a whole new string of symptoms to the one that had plagued Bazil. A displaced shower curtain was all that separated the rest of the muscle and their sick comrade. Hardly the privacy that one should expect while under care, but hey, if you're careless enough to join up to Jackal's band of merry men then you should expect some rough edges here and there.

Speaking of the mink, Jackal waltzed through the ship and spread apart the curtain. He then hauled an unconcious body onto a table-bed. "So this is..." Gil blinked three times, getting the gist that this was the poisoning culprit. At the mention of 'Gilly', Gil's eyebrows knitted over his black eyes and he looked pointedly at Jackal. Seeing the cheeky grin that was all too big for his face, the fishman croaked, regretting giving a reaction to the mink's tease. Gil would get up and look over the woman that had been given to him. Taking his time to give a thorough check up, he invaded her privacy without care to ask her.

"Well you see, I'm afraid I can't do that." He breathed in and out. It was a shame for them to part ways, but after the news he had received, he couldn't pass up this opportunity. "I've come across a rumour that what I have been looking for these past few years is on the island known as Baltigo. It could all be for naught of course, but this is the first lead I've ever had. I'm determined not to let this go to waste. I'm sorry Jackal. Thank you for the offer." He gave a tiny bow from the hips, the motion all too awkward for a usually deliberate fishman.

Breaking down into laughter, "Shishishishi..." Jackal blurted out almost uncontrollably. "You did that so formally!" Jackal exclaimed. Exhaling catching his breath, "I refuse your refusal to not join up with me. Why do you keep fighting it when it seems fate keeps blowing us in the same direction. The next destination on my Log Post.... is indeed. Baltigo." Jackal stated grinning widely. "It's fate Gilbard. We're destined for each other!" Jackal exclaimed, breaking down into a chuckle once again. Entering into a serious mood after having a good laugh once more, "Even if my Log pointed to another island... I have to go to Baltigo eventually anyway. When it comes to finding out more information about Pluton.... The only place that makes sense is the Black Market Capital. I have a bone to pick with one of the Kingpin's men. Or more so... A question to ask. I haven't worked it all out in my mind as yet... but it'll make this Sandy Island Heist look like child's play." Jackal explained.

"Also Gilbard. I think your misunderstanding what 'my crew' is suppose to be all about. I have no executive orders really. This whole journey of mine started on the weight of another one's 'Will'. I've met so many people... had positive... and negative experiences..." Jackal stated, shuddering at the thought of being kidnapped during Christmas. "However... all in all... I still have much more to see. What is it that you seek out on Baltigo? Trust me. I have no intentions of impeding on your 'Will'. It's just... it feels good having someone watching yer' back sometimes. Besides... whose gonna patch me up when shit hits the fan! Shishishishi!" Jackal exclaimed, grinning widely.

"I refuse your refusal to not join up with me"
Well now, that just plain didn't make sense. Gilbard sure did find Jackal to be a weirdo sometimes, though apparently he was the strange one from the reactions he received from the general population. It was a strange coincidence to see that Jackal was headed toward Baltigo as well. All the same, Gil's idea of fate wouldn't concern itself for individuals, mere grains of sand. There was something to be said about taking things as they went though. After all, a ship travels fastest with the wind and current at it's back. To be honest, the news that he had received had frightened him. There was a great many questionmarks awaiting him, and the idea of traversing Baltigo by himself was not one he looked forward to. From the sound of it, Jackal had a lot to deal with himself in the future. Maybe their cooperation would yield something greater than the sum of their parts.

"It's true, you're the injury prone type that needs a season pass to the doctors." Gil croaked, Jackal's cheerful jesting beginning to rub off on him. "Well, I suppose..." Gil shuffled in place, crossing his arms and thinking. "If we are going to the same Island then we may as well travel together." He shuffled again. That wasn't what he meant to say. "The problem is, I don't know what exactly I'm looking for. I left the Conclave in search of a 'miracle cure' that has something to do with me personally. A ship came from Baltigo with rumours of a miracle cure, and this is the first I have heard of such a thing in years. I have no idea what is out there, but I feel some sort of responsibility to this." It was his direction in life. Like a needle spinning toward magnetic north, he had begun this medical career to fulfill this responsibility. "I couldn't possibly ask you to assist on such an open ended task. But if you could, I would appreciate that. In return, I would be more than happy to follow wherever your 'will' leads."

It's the thrill in the end. In that moment when something stolen becomes mine or is it? That's the bliss I desire.

Pondering the man's response, Jackal rattled his brain in contemplation of what this miracle cure could've possibly been. "They say Baltigo is an island where you could find out information about the Devil himself. It's the hub of all Black Markets converged into one. Ran by these dudes called Kingpins. If information about this 'miracle cure' exists, you should at least be able to get a solid lead there." Jackal concluded. "I'm sure after curing Jiro... You'll find other uses for these poisons." Jackal stated pointing at Mo. "In the meantime... It'll just be a few more days until our Log Post sets to the next location fully according to Sinbad." Jackal explained. "I'm going to go upstairs and have a drink with the boys. Once your done tinkering around in her, you should come up and relax for once." Jackal exclaimed grinning. Walking back towards the blinds, Jackal exited the room, returning above surface to the merriment of his men on the deck of the vessel. Poor pitched songs, the stench of ale, and the smell of roasted fish filled the air, as the Bandit's literally began their festivities across the ship and on the land along the coast. Sitting atop several crates on the deck, "Your back Capt'" Sinbad shouted. "Shishishi... Your drunk Sinbad. I can smell it on your breath" Jackal retorted, looking at the intoxicated state Sinbad was in, swaying from side to side with an unending smile plastered across his face. "I am not! I'm just a little... buzzed." Sinbad said, hiccuping in between. "Come drink with us Capt'!" Sinbad shouted, as his cheers sparked the cry to echo from the other Bandits mouths. Picking up a mug from a nearby table, Jackal would walkover towards the barrel of ale, dipping his cup into the elixir and chugging the mug gingerly until completion. Another roar would bellow out from the men's mouths, as Bandit's songs would fill the air.

"Captain. It won't be long before our Log sets to Baltigo." Sinbad explained. "I know... I was just telling Gilbard about it." Jackal responded. "Baltigo isn't as warming as Sandy Isle was Capt'. If you cause trouble there, it could spell death for us all. The Kingpin's who run that place have reaches that far extend that island." Sinbad explained. "They are pretty much the curators of the Black Market." Sinbad stated. "Shishishi... I have no intention of causing any trouble on Baltigo. The lower profile I take... The easier it'll be to reach my goal of researching Pluton." Jackal stated. "Pluton... I've been meaning to ask you that boss. What in the world is this Pluton and it's key you kept rattling on about?" Sinbad inquired. Dipping his mug into the barrel of ale once again, Jackal would sip slower this time. "Pluton. Once upon a time... I was a slave to Drum Royalty. I hear most of their political issues with Alabasta. The keyword, 'Pluton' kept coming up. Then one day... Someone among the Nobles revealed what it was... 'An Ancient Weapon' Strong Enough to Make Any Nation A Super Power.' I promised myself if I ever got free, it'd make it a priority of mine to steal it." Jackal explained. "Why?" Sinbad inquired. "My hometown. Zou. I'm going to keep tucked away for the day they might need my help. As a child.... I had visions of the future when as I slept. Zou was faced with a great crisis. I don't know the details but there was fire everywhere. Since then, I've always strive to become stronger. In case my delusions weren't simply a dream." Jackal explained.

Gil nodded, feeling the air was suddenly thick upon the utterance of his unknown goal. "Go enjoy yourself, I'll see what I can do here." The fishman spent an hour or so extracting Mo's poisons from her and using them to derive an antidote to cure the afflicted man. He took care to keep samples of everything for his personal use. Once Gil had access to a fresh sample of the poison, the act of creating an antidote was simple enough, at least for him. Those that used poisons usually only used that which they could cure themselves. With that in mind, the act of finding a way to locate that special something was a procedure. Gilbard produced dozens of samples of this and that, from formal medicines he had pilfered from the palace to the herbal concoctions he brewed himself. Like going down a checklist, he observed the reactions each substance had with the poison.

"... Gingerwheat extract." Gil applied his chosen cure to the poisoned man. It was a herb that grew like grass and had a spicy/sour tang to it. He balled up a clump of it and placed it underneath the man's tongue, letting his digestive juices slowly drip feed it into his system. By this point he had a lot of experience with poisons. From coral to creature, there were many poisonous things under the sea that Gil had experimented on over the years. The ocean was an appealing place to gather resources as it was one that humans didn't have as much access to as he did, so there was less chance that they had used it to it's full potential. After a few minutes, the man's condition was beginning to improve. Relief from the attack to his body showed on his face, the profuse sweating coming to an end. After finishing up with the personal care, Gil headed up to meet with the others. Finding them well into their umpteenth round, he slumped down next to Jackal and wiped his brow. "Looks like your man will be alright. Although if he keeps following you, who knows how long that will last. You know, after all of the fuss you've caused on this island, I am curious to know more about how you got here."

"Zou?" Sinbad inquired. It was at this same point that Gilbard ascended to the deck, bringing news that Jiro was going to make a smooth recovery. Adding in a slight jab about the danger in following Jackal around, Gilbard inquired about Jackal's origins on being on Sandy Island in the first place. Taking another swig of ale into his mouth, the Captain had abandoned his mug, as his head was feeling a bit light. "Shishishishi... Perfect timing. I can kill two birds with one stone. You wanted to know what Zou was... and Gilbard asked about my reason for being on Sandy Island. I guess it all started on Drum." Jackal stated. Propping on a couple crates behind him, all of the Bandits who'd served under Jackal, Sinbad and Gilbard all gathered around for the Mink's tale. Sinbad motioned towards Gilbard, offering the Fishman a drink of ale or stout, shooting a grin towards the doctor.

"Zou. Most Lesser Minks wouldn't know about it. It's an island secluding in a sea known as the New World. From young, us Minks are trained to fight using our Electro. Mostly, you either end up serving a Ruler or others go into research." Jackal stated.

"My family... The Jackal Clan were responsible for producing several generations of warriors who served the 'Sun' Ruler side of Zou." Jackal explained. Jackal noticed the puzzled looks on the faces of Sinbad and a few of the other Bandits, "Ah. Zou is my homeland. Instead of Kingdom's, our people are divided by our sleeping habits. Sun side minks rise with the sun. Moon side minks rise with the moon." Jackal explained, as redundant as the statement was.

"Anyway. I trained to be apart of the Sun Side's Musketeers. Knights who serve the two specified rulers of Zou. Long story shortened, one day, Zou was raided by a gang of slave traders. In a plea to save my father's life, I was captured." Jackal explained.

"I spent days... almost weeks locked in a cage. Eventually, I arrived on Drum. I spent most of my days being ridiculed by Lesser Minks. Until three years later, a pirate by the name of Gin freed me during his assault on the Royalty's Castle." Jackal explained.

"I travelled with him about three months. When it came to Gin and his crew, they we're the best band of thieves I ever encountered. Though, I might be bias seeing as I hadn't been exposed to the outside world long." Jackal stated grinning.

"Sleight of Hand... Pick-Pocketing... Guerrilla Warfare... Black Jack... I learned all kinds of things from them." Jackal continued.

"Oh? Why did you leave?" Sinbad asked, hiccuping in between the phrasing of his sentence. "Because. Gin and I had a disagreement on my cut from a job we did." Jackal said, puffing out his cheeks stubbornly. Breaking into laughter, Sinbad honestly couldn't believe Jackal's reasoning for leaving his former crew. "In all seriousness... We had different concepts of what it meant to be a thief. Gin believe in taking everything from anyone. Absolute Evil, he'd proudly call it. In his reasoning, he didn't free me. He stole my freedom. I was neither a slave nor free but indebted to him. Which to some extent... He was correct." Jackal explained.

"On the other hand... I don't really care much about stealing easily obtainable items. Beli... Gold... anything I can pick-pocket off the street. I generally have no interest in it. I want things that you can't find anywhere else in the world. That's what drew me to Pluton's Story. That's my morale compass. I won't steal anything I don't desire to. Honour among thieves... Silly isn't it?" Jackal concluded.

"Pwhaha.... Sounds like you Capt'. Barron was more like Gin too. I only followed him out of fear." Sinbad explained. "With you... It's like... my heart won't stop beating. What will you do next? That's why I follow ya." Sinbad concluded, draping his hands around Gilbard, he'd always get extra friendly when he drank. Sinbad was an emotional mess when it came to alcohol.

"So yer not going for Pirate King!?" one of the Bandits shouted in a drunken frenzy. "Pirate King... Ah. As in like what Soju's father accomplished? I never thought about it. I wanna be the world's best thief. Steal as much as I need, for as long as I can, and retire on an island somewhere." Jackal said.

"What of you, Gilbard? You must be tired hearing me babble about my life. What brings you onto these seas? A woman? Medicine? Maybe an incurable disease? Or is it this miracle you seek?" Jackal inquired, being sure to not go into much detail on his last point, due to not being sure on how much Gilbard wanted to be divulged about this 'miracle cure' ghost of his he was chasing.

Gil raised an eyebrow as he watched the grunts pull up around their table. Like toddlers awaiting their story time. He refused the alcohol, politely excusing himself and explaining that he didn't know how the brew would affect the population inside of him. Listening to Jackal, he learned many things. About Zou, a place he had never heard before. He had seen a few minks on his travels, and witnessed a few uses of electro. He guessed at the fact that the minks were split up due to their sleeping habits meant that there was variation of nocturnal and diurnal behaviours. It sounded like it could be an efficient way to live, but Gil knew that divisions in people, no matter how small, often lead to friction between groups.

Gil learned that Jackal had been to drum before, other than their Christmas kidnapping. Although it was a sick coincidence that Jackal had also been a captive at that point too. He then spoke of friction between a gang of bandits. According to Jackal, he had some type of honour. It did sound silly to Gil, as being a thief was a profession that was meant to reap riches. Having a code of conduct seemed like an obstacle rather than anything positive in Gil's mind. Although Gil couldn't see himself partying up with anyone that took to petty thievery.

"With you... It's like... my heart won't stop beating."
Gil turned to Sinbad. "If you also have flushed cheeks and dilated pupils then you may be experiencing infatuation. Hmm nope, must be the adrenaline."

The mention of Pirate King came up. Gil shot the man an incredulous look. Pirate King was a dream that sailors stumbled toward with stars in their eyes. It didn't make practical sense to go for something like that. Although with Jackal's answer, he seemed to get the jist that this particular dream wasn't quite off the table. Maybe Gil was getting into something way over his head with this group. Though Jackal talked about retiring and Gil was sure that a king of pirates wasn't someone who was able to retire when they felt like it.

"Hmm I suppose there is no harm in sharing with you guys. Where to start... Well I left the Conclave a few years ago with a human girl with an incurable ailment. She had come to the Conclave with a crew of adults that were searching for me. For what reason I have no idea. There should be no reason that a group of surface dwellers would know of me."

"Anyway, the crew was massacred for their crimes but I managed to trade my exile for the girl's life. I am still not sure why I made that choice. Maybe I felt some sort of responsibility since they were looking for me. All I know is that it involved some kind of 'miracle cure'. From that point on I devoted my now meaningless life to the pursuit of this cure. This meant traveling the Grand Line and learning all I can of medical science. But so far, no such luck." Gil's raspy voice cut to the short and hairy of it.

"I think it's pretty obvious why you traded your home for her life. Well at least to me it is." Jackal stated. "Your 'Love' of Medicine. Life's weird like that. Those tiny moments where the easiest decision screams out at you but you go the other way." Jackal continued. "Sounds like you need help up top on that one Boss!" another one of the grunts chimed in, inferring that Jackal had mental problems or wasn't quite right in the head. The bandits mood caused the other bandits to shout out in merriment and laughter. "Eh. I guess that means I need help to. I feel the same way about sailing new currents or exploring new waters. If you let Capt', I'll make sure to get you back home to Zou." Sinbad stated, almost sobering up instantly from listening to his and Gilbard's story. "And to you, Gilbard. As long as this blade of mine has use, I'd like to offer it in arms to help you obtain this cure of yours." Sinbad said, turning to the Fishman, crossing his arm diagonally along his chest before bowing slightly. "What happened to the girl, Gilbard?" Jackal inquired. "You ever tried seeking her out... Maybe she has the answers about this cure of yours as well?" Jackal continued. "I guess we all have our pasts. With that, I think I've spilled enough my guts for the night. My head's already light as is, I'mma go call it a night." Jackal stated. "Before I go to sleep... I guess I should make this announcement official. In the next coming days, I'll be leaving Sandy Island. Finishing any business you have if you plan to come out onto the seas with me. Harden your resolve because if you thought Sandy was hard... It'll only be more difficult moving forward. Sinbad will be travelling to Erumalu to check out rumours about a potential Three-Eyed Clan member who can decode Pluton for me. I'll be returning to the capital to gather a bit more information about Baltigo before we depart." Jackal announced. "Though I'm not sure if permanently or not, Dr. Gilbard here will be travelling with us." Jackal said. "That's about it. In three days time we depart for Cactus Island." Jackal stated, walking away from the pack, to attempt to head downstairs to sleep.

Exit.

Gil silently digested Jackals words. He didn't know if they applied to him. Maybe 'why' didn't matter, because that was all in the past. "Thank you Sinbad, everyone." He nodded in acknowledgement. The young blonde did seem kind and generous with his comradery. It felt strange to be included in something like this. But it wasn't all that bad of a feeling.

"The girl, well, I don't know if she's dead or not by now. I managed to find a family to care for her but her illness is terminal. There was nothing I could do for her. Even with all that I have learned from then, all I could do is prolong her suffering. Don't misunderstand, I don't care about the life of one human fledgling, but for the implications of this 'miracle cure' may mean." Gil nodded at Jackal calling it a night. He had had enough of talking for one day. Socialising wasn't his strong point. Heading to Cactus Island sounded like a good idea. Getting away from the mainland of Sandy Island and away from the marine infested dunes was a good direction.

So this was the beginning of his comradeship with a bunch of bandits. First they were headed to Cactus and then to Baltigo beyond that. But what exactly would happen along the way, it would be anyone's guess. The tumultuous era was gaining ferocity. However the stormy seas ahead looked a little more forgiving when others shared in his journey.

"Understood, Captain."
