Part 1: Beast Hunting

Sitting perched atop the bow of the Skycleaver, Mashyuu kept his eyes shut and listened to the area that surrounded his vessel. Since getting his spear a part of him had felt like it was missing. It took a few days for him to realize what that was but soon he understood that it was the feel of the forge. Once he realized what he was missing, Mashyuu went to the bow of the ship and meditated on what it was he wanted to make. He pushed himself off the bow of the ship and cracked his neck as he floated with his wings to the shore of Jordsand. His black boots touched down and the Pirate started to follow the barely worn trail he had made when he first arrived on the island.

Sweat beaded from his black locks of hair down his jawline and dripped from his chin. He ran his black sleeve over his forehead and released a shallow breath while glancing up at the beating sun. "Why is it such a hot day?" He complained and shook his head annoyed. He knew what he was going to do, knew what he needed to hunt and knew that the last time he fought the beast he almost died. But he had grown a great deal since then and knew that the beast didn't stand much of a chance at this point.

The pirate started to wander close to the grotto and stopped when he could see the clearing through some of the trees. His blue eyes narrowed and his head twisted to the right while his lip curled up in a snarl. He couldn't smell the beast but a part of Mashyuu knew it was close, even with using his Observation Mantra. "Alright, you see me, I know you're here. You waiting for me to come out in the open? Mashyuu muttered while standing in the tree line while drawing his whip sword off of his waist.

Without saying a word, Mashyuu steeled his mind and soul, then entered the clearing of the grotto. As he entered, the Pirate looked about the grassy field and looked to the water. As always it flowed from a waterfall, causing the pool to ripple gently. Slowly Mashyuu wandered over to the water. Just like the first time that Mashyuu came to the grotto he looked at his reflection and frowned at what looked back at him. A man who had been molded and made by failure after failure, and repeated losses. While he had physical wins, he had lost in ways that haunted him.

Above him the ground around the waterfall quaked, the pool of crystal blue water trembled with the quake and an ear splitting roar echoed in the distance. Mashyuu took a leaping spring backwards and started to whip his blade around, letting the whip blade build momentum and at the same time reached behind his back and drew the shortened staff off the small of his back. with a use of his magnetic power he twisted the staff around and pulled it into it's full length and locked it in place. Alright.... you got this. Mashyuu thought to himself to build his confidence.

A moment later the ground started to tremble, Mashyuu's entire body flexed in order to keep himself from falling over and his wings began to flap and lift the man off the ground to keep him from being knocked down. Then it happened, the grey scaled monster that was fifteen feet tall. It's eyes that were hidden under flaps of grey skin blinked and twisted in Mashyuu's direction. The monster twisted its head and roared, spit dripping from its mouth and flying into the pool while it's sharp teeth dripped a strange green venom. It's entire body moved down, then sprang up. A moment later the monster landed on the ground some ten feet away from Mashyuu, well within striking distance and stood up on its back legs.

Mashyuu snarled in the face of the beast and pulled his left arm back then lashed out with the whip blade, catching the beast in the wrist just as the monster started to lift its right arm up to take a swipe at the Pirate. The Captain darted up, evading a swipe from the barely injured beast then stabbed his spear down into the wrist of the monster as it completed its swipe. The sea stone spear head sank into the scaley grey flesh of the beast and Mashyuu couldn't help but smile. He hadn't gotten physically stronger but the spear was sharp, made for getting through things like armor and tough scales. The beast no longer had much of a chance. The moment Mashyuu's spear was pulled out of the beasts wrist, the monster yelped, sprang back and caused the ground to quake with its landing then started to stalk around Mashyuu as he landed on grassy field and wrapped his whip blade around his waist and took his spear into both hands. The young man whipped his spear around in wide arcs, cutting the air around him with each pass of the weapon as he got himself used to the weight and balance of the weapon's full length. The massive beast lunged forward, mouth open to try and bite Mashyuu but the winged man activated his Armament Mantra and washed the spear in black energy. The Pirate reached out and braced himself as the beast started to snap its large maw shut. Thanks to its partially sealed eyes the monster never saw Mashyuu block the bite with his reinforced spear. It's maw snapped shut and teeth wrapped around the shaft of the spear without ever ripping through any of Mashyuu's flesh. Without a word Mashyuu let go of the spear from the bottom half and pulled the spear out with his right hand then flipped it around and stabbed it into the monsters snout.

The beast howled, blood pooled out of the monsters snout, and it grasped at the wound, unaware of what had actually harmed it twice. Mashyuu danced around the grey skinned beast and stabbed at it twice more, gouging its ribs in a similar way to how the monster had cut Mashyuu's side open with one swipe the first time they fought when the Captain had learned Observation Mantra. He swiftly jumped up and let his wings carry him back to the pool under the waterfall in time for the beast to quickly spin around and brandish two pairs of razor sharp claws, each of them as thick as an average sword. Mashyuu's eyes darted from the beasts shoulders to its claws and back again so he could ready himself for the monsters attack.

Just as it sprang up, Mashyuu threw his left arm out, three throwing blades launched from his vest right into the chest of the monster. "Cloud of Knives!" He shouted out as the three daggers lodged into the monsters skin, just barely but enough to cause the monster a moment of pause and that was all Mashyuu truly needed. Mashyuu's eyes narrowed and he pulled his right hand back with the spear in it while flying as fast as he could at the beast while it swiped its claws at the throwing blades to rip them from its body. Mashyuu thrust his weapon forward, twisted the weapon with both hands and planted his feet to push forward deeper as he let his weapon dig through the scaled flesh of the monster. He could feel the monsters heart get pierced with the spear and its life force stop flowing. "Ragnar's Spear..." Mashyuu muttered and pulled back the weapon while stepping to the left while the beast fell backwards and howled its last cry of pain. "It was only a matter of time until you were far below me." He muttered and allowed the haki on Mashyuu's weapon to fade away and the Pirate drew a short breath with a smile on his face. Pushing his daggers back into the beast, Mashyuu then wrapped his whip blade around the monsters leg and started to walk back to the ship, using his magnetic powers to drag the monster back to the shore near the Skycleaver.

Part 2: Doshaburi

Stopping outside of the ship, Mashyuu glanced back at the beast he had been dragging with his magnetic power and then back to the ship. A frown crossed his thin lips when he realized he wouldn't be able to simply bring the thing inside the vessel without some issues. Without saying anything to Sky or Harley who were standing on the main deck talking about something Mashyuu was sure he had no interest in, he flew past them, got Jarrett and two more crew members along with some knives meant for flaying skin and each man grabbed a large barrel. Once all four men were assembled outside of the ship and at the side of the grey beast Mashyuu removed his jacket and shirt while explaining what he needed from his crew members. "I need to remove the skin and meat from this thing. It's gonna be bloody but I need its bones and its heart. We can save its liver and lungs to eat along with anything else that looks like good meat but the rest has to be disposed of and I want to keep its skin, it's nice and tough, should make for some good leather for armors. I'm going to make cuts in it with my spear and you guys start peeling as much of its skin off as you can." Mashyuu instructed. Jarrett and the others each nodded to show they understood and watched as Mashyuu started at the ankles of the monster and started to cut around its leg. "Why do you want the bone?" Jarrett asked. Mashyuu simply smirked back at Jarrett and tapped the blade around his waist. "To make the handles of weapons. Bone's easy to carve." Jarrett looked down at Mashyuu's arms working around the monster, making quick cuts with his spear and shuddered at the thought. "I'm gonna make everyone some new weapons eventually, those swords and guns you guys have now are okay but for what we are eventually going to do, you're gonna need better weapons." Jarrett and the others started to get to work while Mashyuu finished making incisions on the beast. "I'm gonna go get the forge ready, get that skin and bone.. oh and the heart down to the forge once you're done." The Captain ordered and headed into the ship from the main deck to start up the forge.

The roar of cool fire echoed from the forge in the bottom of the Skycleaver, Mashyuu had changed into a pair of light but durable red and black pants, a white tee shirt and a thick leather apron along with matching brown gloves and started to get to work. In his minds eye (where he did his best work) he imagined two swords. One a Katana, the other a bastard sword. He decided to start with the Katana as it would be the easier of the two to create when all was said and done. Deciding on this Mashyuu started to assemble the tools needed for crafting his weapon. Two large pieces of steel were used first. He threw them in the smelter of his forge and let them melt into one piece of steel, the mold he used was a flat bed that was shaped like a square. With that done he let the steel cool down and solidify while he began to prepare the rest of what was needed to craft the blade...

The hammer Mashyuu was given by Gunther (the man who taught Mashyuu how to work metal) clanged hard against the anvil of his forge then against the steel, flattening one corner after the hundredth strike or so against the metal. Then it clanged twice again, flattening another piece of the metal. After he had hammered the metal into a sheet that was as thin as paper, Mashyuu used his magnetic power to fold the metal in half and put it back into the forge to heat it up again. Once removed from the hot forge, Mashyuu placed the steel down and struck it against the anvil with his hammer, stretching the would be weapon out to thirty inches in length. Once again he flattened the metal to the best of his abilty and folded it, taking two inches from the weapons length to fold it again after flattening the blade. Again he struck the weapon while folding it at one end to give it a clear edge. Once that was done he placed the weapon back into the super heated forge and started to work again, letting the metal become near red hot Mashyuu withdrew the blade and began to gently hammer one end of the weapon so it was thinner than the rest, taking another four inches from the weapon to give it a six inch base for the grip to wrap around.

Mashyuu wiped sweat off his brow and continued to work, carefully hammering a slanted edge out on the top of the sword to make a diagonal and fine tip. The process was long, drawn out and a little tiring for Mashyuu as he was careful to give the weapon a perfect angle, using a small level in order to make sure the weapons tip was perfectly shaped. Next he reached into a pot of wet clay and began to slowly wrap the blade of the weapon to in thick clay. Once it was weighed down Mashyuu inserted the weapon into the forge long enough to start melting the clay and used his magnetic powers to pull the blade free of the fire and hold it over the flames. Slowly the fire melted the clay, but the clay also slowly bent the sword and gave it a natural curve that was slightly more curved than average but to the untrained eye, nobody would have noticed the slight difference. When most of the clay melted and fell into the forge, Mashyuu removed the hot blade and quenched it in water just as Jarrett and the others brought two barrels of flesh and one of bones along with the large heart of the beast into the room that Mashyuu had set his forge up inside of.

"Fantastic, set those barrels along the wall there near the steel. I'll take that heart right away though." Mashyuu reached for the heart of the beast and took it in one hand while wandering over to a tall but thin barrel in the corner of the room then cut the heart open with one of his throwing blades and let the blood seep and pour into the barrel. Slowly the heart drained the last of its life force until the massive heart was dried completely. Jarrett and the others watched Mashyuu work for a few moments before slowly and silently slinking out of the room leaving Mashyuu to his tasks. Mashyuu dipped the curved blade in the barrel, letting the clay on the blade remain there while soaking in the blood of the beast. After that he measured the width of the blade and jotted down some notes and picked up a long piece of brass he had from a prior project.

With a heave he sat down and started to work the brass with a small hammer, knocking it into a flat c shape and took it over to the blade. He fit the C shaped brass along the base of the blade and hammered the rest of it into place so it would make a snug fit then used his magnetic powers to pull the brass free and carried it over towards a small blowtorch sitting on his desk. Carefully Mashyuu began to heat the brass until it was welded together then polished it with fine sandpaper until he could no longer see or feel the welding spot. Content with is work, Mashyuu wandered over to one of the barrels and pulled a thick bone from the barrel and took it over to his anvil. He struck the bone repeatedly two inches below the joint of the bone until it snapped and he smiled in response. Happy with his piece of bone, he placed the larger part of the broken bone into the barrel again and took a long piece of black wood, colored with smoke, and began to hollow it out with a long piece of sharp metal and a soft mallet.

Each strike of his mallet against the thin chisel dug a small bit of wood out of what would end up being the handle of Mashyuu's weapon. Carefully Mashyuu continued to work until he had a hollowed out handle. It took a bit of time but it wasn't anything too difficult after making a sword with a built in revolver only a little while ago. Next he took a square piece of bronze and measured out the length and width of his blade, made quick marks on his piece of bronze then walked it over to a small metal puncture maker he had gotten in Mock Town and made a single puncture in the corner of a place he marked earlier. Carefully he took a thin metal wire and started to run it back and fourth along his markings until the center of the brass fell out and what was left was a small square with a hole in the center. Following that he moved to a small grinder that was set on a tall but thin and long table, and started to shave the edges and sand it down until the bronze became an oval shape. Using a long measuring tape Mashyuu made sure the oval was as perfect as possible. He blew the excess bronze dust off the hand guard and measured a quarter inch away from each side of the guard and took a thin black marker and drew a cloud like shape on each side. Slowly he returned to the puncture maker and made two quick holes in the brass again, then used his thin wire to carve out the clouds he had drawn into the brass. Following that he began to use a thin steel needle and carve out the outlines of wind blowing on two corners of the hand guard, then carved the sides out just a bit. Once that was done he used a blow torch to make the brass look darker where the wind design wasn't located.

With the guard done he moved back to the handle and secured the guard then withdrew the blade from the barrel of blood, Taking a soft mallet hammer he knocked the remaining pieces of clay off the sword and examined it, the blood had stained the sword on the dull half of the weapon and left the sharp edge of the blade looking sparkling in comparison. Using his magnetic power he flipped the blade up and held it in place then slid the handle of the sword up to lock it in place. Next he took one more piece of brass and started to work it into a cap with a soft mallet then carved a dragon into the cap, taking a few hours to get the design just right. Upon completion, Mashyuu started to wrap the handle of the Katana with a white cloth nice and tight to make a strong and comfortable grip, sealed it in place with a solid glue and carefully secured the cap to the handle. Carefully he examined the blade and started to run a whetstone along the blade until it could cut his fingers by simply running a finger over the blade gently.

A wry smile spread over his face and Mashyuu set the sword aside. Carefully he walked to a rack of scabbards he had made to fit various blades and drew a black scabbard with golden edges and measured it compared to the Katana he had made and fit the blade into the scabbard. "Downpour, Doshaburi." He dubbed the blade and instantly knew who he wanted to carry the weapon.

Part 3: Sukairain

Slowly Mashyuu took a seat and started to draw on a piece of sketch paper in the corner of his work table. He didn't have much skill in drawing but actively sketching helped the man bring an idea of his to life when he crafted something for the first time. While he had made swords in the past, what was running through his mind was not like any sword he had crafted in the past. The winged pirate drew a large blade and jotted down a number next to it. 37. After that he jotted down a number next to the handle of the weapon. 17. with that done he continued by jotting a set of numbers along the cross guard of the weapon he drew. 9.25. With the basic measurements, Mashyuu had an idea of what he was working with. The pirate stepped out of the forge and headed to the main deck of the Skycleaver, still dressed in his smith gear, Mashyuu drew a deep breath of clean air and stretched his body. "Hey! Everything's set for Baltigo, when do you want to go?" Sky shouted while she sauntered up to Mashyuu and leaned against her fellow Skypiean's side. "Soon, I'm gonna finish making a sword, then help out Madori with something and we will head off after that. Make sure the crew is ready and we can get going." Mashyuu stated while glancing down at the slightly shorter woman. Sky smirked at Mashyuu softly then pushed off of the man and strutted over to Jarrett to go over plans to head out.

After a short break, Mashyuu headed back to the forge and pulled off a small table, three steel ingots. The man found a long mold and placed the ingots inside it. Carefully he placed the mold into the flaming furnace and let the ingots melt together. Just as carefully Mashyuu pulled the mold out and quenched the steel so that it was one solid piece of metal. The man drew a deep breath and made a large box with some wood and nails, creating a sixty inch long, twelve inch wide frame, then packed it tight with clay. This is going to be too big to simply make a basic piece of steel and hammer it out. Plus I don't have the tools on ship to hammer things out with a machine. I need to use a mold. Mashyuu thought to himself. The pirate worked for hours packing the clay until it was extremely tight in the foot tall (when resting on its side) frame Mashyuu had made. Next he set out to using a curved knife to carve out a mold for the sword he would make, including the width of the blade (3 inches), the thickness of it (4.08 mm) and the slight curves towards the swords tip. He didn't know what reason the curves there served but in his mind they were needed. By the time that was done it was so late he barely made it back to his room to sleep...

Upon awakening, Mashyuu jumped out of bed and sprinted to the mess hall. (He really missed Gideon's cooking) but quickly whipped up a large enough breakfast of basic eggs and dried meats to get him through at least half a day. Then he washed up and headed back to the forge. After a few minutes to get things in order Mashyuu large cup of metal that was extremely thick and hooked to a pair of handles into the furnace followed by the steel beam he had forged the previous day. Holding the two items with his magnetic powers he allowed the steel beam to heat up to twenty five hundred degrees (F). As it heated, the steel beam began to melt and filled the large metal cup. Following that, Mashyuu removed the cup with his magnetic powers from the forge and floated it over towards the mold he created and very slowly started to pour the molten steel into the mold. Steam filled the room Mashyuu worked in, but the Smith was used to the heat and kept a steady pour until all of the liquid had filled the mold. While he let the metal cool and take shape, Mashyuu started to rummage through the bones of the monster that was killed and pulled out the smallest pieces he could find along with the skull of a wild Skypiean animal he had killed in its jungles when he was searching for the devil fruit he had eaten. Upon finding what he wanted, Mashyuu set off to creating another clay and wooden frame, this time using all his clay in the process. Before the clay could dry, Mashyuu depressed the bones into the clay box, until they were half submerged in clay, then did it again in the empty spaces of the clay. With the task complete, Mashyuu took his last two ingots of Skypiean steel and placed them in the smelter, melting the bars and allowing them to pour into a second metal cup. Once again he filled each of the molds with the white steel and allowed them to cool while he went back to the blade he had let cool. Carefully he took his smiths hammer and broke the clay off of the blade, shattering the mold in the process. He lifted the weapon by the tang and tested it's weight. It easily weighed twenty pounds and made Mashyuu's eyes go wide with worry for a moment while he considered who to give the blade to. In time it would come to him.

carefully he walked the blade to his anvil and started to hammer out any flaws in the blade he could find, then used his magnetic powers to draw out the tang of the weapon while holding the blade steady at the shoulders. He twisted the drawing of the tang to create a screw like effect. By the time that was done Mashyuu's other molds had finished cooling and once again he broke the clay. Taking each half cast of bone shaped metal, Mashyuu matched the pieces up and welded them together with a blow torch then moved to the sanding belt to smooth the pieces out. Next he took a hand drill with a thin bit and started to place holes in a few pieces and the skull shaped metal on its left and right sides, the top of the skull and just under the jaw. When that was done, Mashyuu slid the skull onto the tang, then ran a pair of threaded rods with a matching thread to the screw like bits Mashyuu had made inside the bone shaped metal and screwed the two largest pieces of bone onto the sides of the skull creating the cross guard in the process. Next he welded the bones to the skull and used fine sand paper to remove any evidence of the welding. Carefully Mashyuu wandered over to the barrel of blood he had collected and dipped the entire blade into the barrel and let it soak. Once again he got to work on the hilt of the blade while the weapon soaked in the blood of a wild beast. Mashyuu took the leg bone of the monster, what he assumed was its thigh and started to burn it with his blow torch just enough to turn the entire thing black, then using the same hand drill, made a hole through the bone's length, then broke it in half and sanded out the broken edge till it was smooth. He floated the blade up straight and slid the bone handle over the tang and completed the blade by screwing on a crown shaped pommel made of silver and let the blade soak for a few more hours. By the time he pulled the blade out, it was blood red. Using magnetism, Mashyuu lined up the small bone molds he created and formed a small rib cage of Skypiean steel on the weapon and used his blowtorch to once again weld the steel to the blade and smoothed it out with sand paper. Then he took a thin paint brush and dipped it in the blood, painting over the burnt edges of the steel so it looked like one solid piece of metal with no visible signs of welding. Finally he hand sharpened the blade until it was just as sharp as the Downpour sword he had made the day before. Mashyuu rested the new blade on a rack and considered names for a few minutes while looking at the Downpour again. "Skyline, Sukairain."
