Linedwell Rainrex

It had been about a few minutes since the time Linedwell woke up from his unconscious state of rest. Taking a peek at the time, he found that the ringing Den Den had woken him up at precisely the time that he'd requested. Though it was a small thing, it really gave Linedwell a sense of how competent this group was. Nowadays, many people wouldn't even get something as simple as a wake-up call correct, but they'd managed to accomplish this feat.

Linedwell found his way out of bed, and then began to make his way to the sink in order to to wash up. After this was finished, Linedwell managed to get himself dressed before departing from the ship. He had a bit of time to himself today, and more than anything, he wanted to make himself a bit more acquanted with the town he'd be taking up residence in for a while. He wasn't usually for vacationing - something that usually took him away from his focus on work and  training, but many had recently had suggested that the young Marine take some time out for himself.

While making his way through the town, his goal had been to search for a few shops and maybe even a smith or two and inspect their work when it came to weaponry and other equipment, yet the growl of his stomach was becoming something he simply couldn't ignore. Walking a few more blocks he came upon a cafe by the name of "Las Noches". Not being able to ignore the growling of his stomach, Linedwell made his way inside of the cafe and took a seat at one of the tables in the back. After taking a seat, a woman silently made her way towards the table and placed a menu on the table. Looking up at her for a second, Linedwell noticed her name tag read "Tier". It was a name that he hadn't heard before, and he could almost imagine that she probably had the last name of "Harribel" or something weird like that. As he thought this, the woman looked at him with a glare and then walked off just as silently as she approached.

"Okay then..."

Linedwell then redirected his eyes downwards and began to read through the menu.

Usually when it came to food, Linedwell never had a problem with deciding on something and moving on. Though, in this café, it seemed this wouldn't be the case. There were so many different types of dishes in this establishment that he hadn't tried, or even heard of, and each one of them sounded delicious. In spite of how delicious they sounded, being indecisive was something that he hated. After a few more moments of reading the same descriptions, he finally seemed to have settled on something to order. Feeling as though he had been triumphant and conquered this menu, Linedwell looked up in search of the waitress only to see her greeting a new arrival inside of the café.

Linedwell's attention within the cafe had been almost entirely wrapped up in the menu. This island in particular came off as completely foreign to him. He'd never seen one such as this, but he merely chalked it up to not being as traveled as many others. There was still so much of this world that he needed to explore, and happening upon this island merely reinforced this ideal. Even though he'd initially though he'd conquered the menu and found whatever it was that he wanted to order, the newness of it all caught him off guard and he found himself intrigued by the other multiple descriptions on the menu. Because of this distraction, he hadn't noticed the two other Marines had entered the cafe and took up residence at a back table. His attention had also been so taken in by this menu, that he also hadn't noticed the attractive female that decided to take a seat next to him until she cleared her throat. It had been an obvious attempt to gain his attention, and given her proximity to Linedwell it managed to break him out of the trance the menu had put him in.

Linedwell's eyes glanced over into the woman's direction, and as they did so the woman began to speak in a sultry tone.

"I've never seen you around here before. You new here?"

"...Obviously."

One thing that Linedwell always hated were obvious questions. She'd already come to the conclusion that he was new to this area. Asking Linedwell whether or not he was would have made little difference to her, as she would have simply believed he was lying if he said he wasn't. All in all, she was attempting to break the ice between them and failing miserably. Her once confident look shifted into a visibly flustered one momentarily before she continued on with her conversation.

"Well, then...where are you from? It's not often I get to see many cute guys around here."

As she said this, her hand fell down to rest atop Linedwell's - something that caused him to wonder why she felt as though she had the right to place a hand on him. Even if the attempt on her part had been to flirt, Linedwell had killed people actions less than this. The temptation to put her back in her place was there, yet, Linedwell decided to let this transgression go. After all, Linedwell was a guest on this island and maybe there were customs here that he just wasn't aware of. Maybe those customs included placing hands on strangers that you barely knew.

"Well, like we've already discussed, I'm not from here. That should narrow things down for you."

The woman let out a laugh as she was obviously under the impression that Linedwell was currently joking around with her when she couldn't have been further from the truth. Yet, as she laughed, Linedwell could also hear what sounded like some sort of commotion occurring outside of the cafe. If he'd managed to look outside of the windows, he would have noticed the multiple people running away from someone or something, but his attention was currently being sapped by the woman next to him.

"You're funny...Y'know, I'm sure we could go have some fun somewhere else. You interes-"

Before she could finish her sentence, she was cut off by whatever was occuring outside of the cafe, just as Linedwell had been. There were now what appeared to be multiple huge figures standing outside of the cafe, all lined up in front of the windows. Given their stature, they almost completely blocked out any of the natural light coming in from outside. Linedwell wasn't sure what was going on, but there appeared to be something menacing concerning what was happening - even the woman next to him seemed to know that something wasn't quite right.

"What's going on?"

She stood as she said this, almost as if she were going to walk out there and ask what was going on. When she prepared to take a step forward, it was obvious that this would be her intent.

"Get dow-!"

Before Linedwell could extend his hand out to pull her back down in her seat, the woman's head burst in front of him. Blood and brain matter splashed everywhere while the skull fragments shot across the room like shrapnel. The blood and brain managed to land color some of Linedwell's clothing, but luckily Linedwell had been able to avoid damage from the shrapnel. Acting quickly afterward, Linedwell quickly dove to the floor while flipping one of the square tables down to the ground along with him to help shield him from the gunfire that was now riddling the cafe.

Linedwell could hear the gunshots, the shattering of glass, and the screams of the patrons as they were each being gunned down one by one by these assailants. For the first time in a long time, Linedwell could feel the cold chill of an emotion known as fear. Linedwell had never been a stranger to violence, but violence of this scale was something he'd never seen before. Innocents being mowed down and killed in cold blood for no discernible reason. There was a momentary thought that these people were here for him, but he knew that even the Pirates rarely killed with such utter disregard...no, this had to be something else entirely.

With the thought that this could potentially be his fault out of his mind, Linedwell's eyes began to scan the area for a way out of this cafe. With his position low to the ground, he knew that if he were to raise up by too much he'd likely find himself the victim of a gunshot wound - and even as fast as Linedwell prided himself on being, there was no way at his current level he'd be able to keep up with the speed of a bullet. The only chance that Linedwell had right now was to simply escape the cafe and hopefully make his way behind these attackers.

After scanning the area for a bit, Linedwell noticed an area in the cafe that seemed to lead to a back exit. After taking a deep breath, Linedwell began to crawl as quickly as possible towards the exit, making sure to crawl only in areas that provided cover. He didn't want to make himself a target for any of the shooters should they happen to see a man crawling across the floor. It was obvious their goal was to kill any and everyone that they could, and if they didn't know he was still alive it was more likely that he'd be able to get out of this place alive.

Once he reached the back exit, Linedwell quickly gave himself an inspection. He hoped he hadn't been injured and as a result of the adrenaline that he just hadn't noticed the injury yet. With the impromptu checkup completed and it being confirmed that he hadn't been injured, Linedwell began to make his way around the back as quietly as he could. Like he'd heard before, there seemed to be just as much commotion in the streets as there was in the cafe. He could see glimpses of what appeared to be...giant toy soldiers? It was a sight that caused him to do a double-take, but alas, what he was seeing was the truth. Giant toy soldiers that stood at a height of about twelve feet were currently riddling civilians with their rifles. As the violence elevated, he was also able to see that stationed Marine forces were beginning to respond.

"What the hell is going on?!"

Linedwell hadn't noticed during all the mayhem that two other individuals had escaped behind him out of the cafe, but only realized this as he heard a voice behind him through all the screams and gunshots. The voice asked him what his orders were. For a second, Linedwell was at a loss. Who was this guy? Whoever it was, he had an overly familiar tone when speaking to him. It wasn't until Linedwell diverted his gaze from the fighting in front of him to his right in order to look at the speaker did he realize he knew this man. He was a fellow Marine, as was the other individual standing behind them. He'd met them both before on the ship, but couldn't exactly remember their names. Regardless, it allowed Linedwell to make sense of the question he'd been asked

With the male's question still in mind, Linedwell's hand fell to his hilt, and his eyes closed. He began to think about the situation as a whole, and what it was that they could provide to the current battle. At the moment, there was currently a small group of Marines fighting back against the group of tall Nutcrackers. Though they were doing well despite their low numbers, they wouldn't last much longer against these attackers. The best thing that they could do now in order to back up these Marines would be to take these toy soldiers by surprise. Given that they were in a position down an alleyway they gave them a great position to attack from, Linedwell quickly made up his mind on their method of attack going forward.

"You two have rifles. I need you both to take up positions here and fire - draw some of their attention. As you're doing that, I'm going to attack from above and take out as many as I can. That'll take some pressure off of the other group. Understood?"

With that said, the two Marines nodded their heads in compliance before Linedwell leapt upwards, grabbing hold of the railing to the balcony above where the exit into the alleyway was; then making his way atop the building. Once on the top, he was able to look downwards and see what was going on below. Like they'd witnessed before, the soldiers and Marines seemed to be battling one another, but so far the battle seemed to be evenly matched between the two sides, as there had yet to be a causality on either side - the only people who seemed to be dying were the civilians.

Pushing off with his right foot, Linedwell launched himself off of the top of the building and towards one of the crowds of toy soldiers, his hand on the hilt of his blade. In one swift motion, Kusanagi had been drawn from its sheathe and cut the air in a diagonal motion. The diagonal slice formed into an attack of compressed flame and slammed into the group, bisecting about three enemies.

The force of Linedwell's attack was enough push Linedwell back a bit, allowing him to combat his falling motion and slow down, which gave him the ability to land safely - though, in this battlefield "safe" was a relative term.

As Linedwell landed on the ground, he could almost swear that the feeling of malice emanating from these toy soldiers was tangible. He'd hoped that he'd be able to make use of the confusion of the fray to get a few kills in before they began to realize that a second group had joined the scuffle, but it seemed that many of them recognized their threat a bit too soon...this didn't mean that the fighting between the toy soldiers and the first group Marines had come to an end though. There were multiple toy soldiers and Marines that were currently engaged in attempting to killi one another, so Linedwell's targets would be the ones that decided to target him first.

Almost one cue, two Nutcrackers rushed towards Linedwell's position. One held an axe, while the other held a rifle in hand. The one with the axe continued to rush towards Linedwell's position, while the one with the rifle stopped in order to back the first Nutcracker up. Linedwell decided the best way to handle this threat would be to stay in the shadow of the axe-wielding Nutcracker, leaving the one with the rifle without a shot. With his hand on his hilt, Linedwell prepared himself to "dance" with his opponent, swaying from side to side and avoiding his opponent's axe swings while also keeping his rifle wielding opponent from firing off a shot. Soon enough, Linedwell grew tired of this dance, and darted around his opponent as quickly as his body would allow. The quick action was enough to catch his rifle wielding foe off-guard while also giving Linedwell enough time to clear the distance of fifteen meters between himself and his opponent. Linedwell's blade had been engulfed in flames well before reaching the wooden male, and with the tip of his place cutting horizontally across the belly of his foe; bisecting him while also setting him aflame.

With this foe dispatched, Linedwell rushed back to his axe-wielding opponent. Linedwell parried one of the male's axe blows. Linedwell then followed this up by pushing him back a bit before rushing forward once again. With Linedwell now within range to deal quite a bit of damage, he thrusted his blade forward, piercing through the lower body of the Nutcracker. With the flaming blade piercing through such a dry, wooden structure, it didn't take long before the Nutcracker lit up like a Christmas tree.

While attempting to "unsheathe" his blade from the corpse of his opponent, he was able to hear movement behind himself. Because of this, Linedwell knew he couldn't exactly afford to stand idle any longer. With a quick and powerful tug, Linedwell had finally been able to withdraw his blade, only to turn around and be greeted by the sight of five toy soldiers rushing towards his position, with only a distance of about five meters separating them. Gripping the hilt of his blade tightly, Linedwell braced himself for what would come.

Once they'd cleared another meter and he was assured they wouldn't be able to react, Linedwell quickly swung his blade and slashed horizontally, slicing the air and sending a "blade" composed of flame in their direction. With the Nutcrackers running up in the that they did, it only left them open to Linedwell's attack, which managed to strike and cleave all of them in half whilst setting them aflame.

He could feel his breath becoming more and more labored the longer the fight went on. The task he'd taken up was a large one, but even when one looked at this in hind sight, there was no real decision that he could have made other than this. Sure, he could have attempted to escape the situation in general, but what would have happened when it was reported that an Ensign, such as himself, had been sighted fleeing the scene while others stood and fought? Besides, how could he look himself in the mirror knowing that he didn't take on the duties he swore to take on as a member of the Marines? No, this was the only option available to him. could have tried to escape the island, but given the state of this place escaping wouldn't have been possible.

With his break finished, Linedwell darted off, running forwards about four meters before leaping upwards. His hand still gripping the hilt of his blade, Linedwell began to pay the cost of deciding to remain in the fray. He could feel his stamina dwindling at an alarming rate -
the fact that he'd been making use of so many skills wasn't helping. As Linedwell soared through the air and the toll of "more stamina" had been paid, he'd prepare himself to use his Karyu Issen technique once more. With fire still enveloping his blade, Linedwell then unsheathed it and slashed in the direction of most of the remaining Nutcrackers. The fire that poured out of the blade and followed the slash resembled a crescent moon, and as it impacted the multiple Nutcrackers it would both cut and set them aflame - taking them down quickly and efficiently.

With Linedwell's flames making impact against the multiple toy soldiers, most of them began to fall back. Not so much because of the damage that had been done as a result of the attack, but because now they were realizing that they'd need to approach confronting Linedwell in a different manner. In spite of this, there were a few soldiers that weren't as intimidated by Linedwell's abilities, and they continued to rush towards him with their weapons drawn. With the amount of opponents making their way towards him, Linedwell knew that in spite of some obvious advantages, he'd need a bit more than that when it came fighting off so many opponents from multiple directions. He'd been getting lucky with multiple kills by using his Karyu Issen technique, however, he wasn't sure how much longer he'd be able to sustain making use of it. He'd been extending himself heavily through his multiple uses of the technique - but it seemed he wouldn't have much choice in the matter.

Yet, before Linedwell could act and make use of his technique, he could hear what sounded like a whistling sound before a sharp, intense pain was felt in his right shoulder. Now resting in his shoulder, there was a metallic spike of some sort. At that moment, it was affecting his ability to swing his sword without doling out an intense amount of pain.

"NOW! KILL HIM NOW!"

As Linedwell looked up, he could see where this voice was coming from; his eyes widening as a result. A huge Nutcracker was now hurtling through the air towards his current position. Linedwell wasn't aware that any of these toy soldiers could actually speak, let alone work together in such a tactical manner. He simply assumed that something else had been given them orders, as they appeared to be solely composed of wood. Before he could get any closer, Linedwell managed to fight through his injury send yet another flame-like blade hurtling through the air. With his position in the air, there weren't many options for him when it came to evasion, thus, he simply had to attempt to block the attack and hope for the best...and the "best" wasn't enough. With the attack landing, the Nutcracker was downed, but that still left six other toy soldiers remaining in front of Linedwell that had just found their second-wind in the form of Linedwell's injury.

Reaching up, Linedwell grabbed hold of the spike with his left hand began to tug at it, attempting to gain an idea of exactly how deep it was embedded in his shoulder. The spike had worked itself in pretty deep, and it was obvious that it would affect his mobility when it came to making use of his weapon if it stayed in. Taking in a deep breath, Linedwell tugged hard at the spike and managed to pull it out completely. The fact he'd taken it out meant that it was likely there'd be a large amount of bleeding, but the threat of not being able to fight anymore was the bigger threat.

While Linedwell did all of this, the others had all begun to close the gap between themselves and Linedwell, and once again reached a distance of about a meter in front of him. With the spike withdrawn from his wound, he prepared himself to attempt to fight off his would-be attackers. It was then that the sound of multiple rifles firing off simultaneously could be heard - the whizzing of bullets ripping through the air followed by the "thunk" of wood being pierced. Marine reinforcements had arrived, and the remaining toy soldiers were being mowed down by gunfire.

The celebration of this win was short lived though, as Linedwell soon fell to one knee. His breathing was now extremely labored and his body now felt as though it weighed tons. He wasn't sure how much longer he'd be able to hold out in a battle such as this one. His abilities weren't those that were conducive to fighting for such long amounts of time. He hadn't yet built up levels of endurance that would support the way in which he fought today. The stress he was putting on his body now was immense, and his injury wasn't helping at all. The only thing he could hope is that the others would be able to take out a few more of these enemies and that he'd be able to rest for a few moments before jumping back into the fray, but with one glance around town and noticing that almost every building seemed to be engulfed in flames, he wasn't sure how long he'd actually be able to rest here.

As he'd just begun to recover he noticed two figures running towards him. He let out a slight sigh, as his initial assumption was that there were still enemies that hadn't been dealt with. He wasn't sure if he could deal with any other opponents in his current state, but he'd fight regardless of that, as it would likely matter very little to the opponent if Linedwell was well enough to fight or not. Soon enough though, Linedwell found himself breathing a sigh of relief as he realized who the two silhouettes in the distance belonged to. The two Marines he'd escaped the cafe with were now running in his direction in order to check up on him. It seemed that the "toy" threat had been quelled, and now the injured were being tended to.

"We're gonna get you out of here"

With his arms slung around their shoulders, the two Marines helped lift Linedwell up and began to make their way to a nearby medical center.

Summary: As short as this was, it encompassed alot of elements of Christmas Invasion angle, while holding through to Lindewell's prideful and noble personality. I really enjoyed the bits with the girl in the beginning and the middle segments when you fought the Nut Crackers. Some of the better positioning, movement and attack placement in terms of Combat RP I've read among the personals on site for the year. This was good, could've been fleshed out more.
