The scene opens up with the focal point being on a tall blonde individual walking through the crowd. After turning in his bounty earlier in the day he figured it would be best to make some purchases. Purchases that would increase his ability to defend himself outside of his devil fruit ability. If they weren't on an island he would be at a major disadvantage. Being defenseless would simply not do for him. He needed to be able to carry his own weight outside of the ground should he be in that kind of situation. Also being able to handle weapons would also mislead others on his devil fruit ability. If he engaged normally without his fruit he would have a significant advantage in the element of surprised. However, he knew he would be in the ground majority of engages on land. It didn't hurt to have some form of protection otherwise.

As he walked through the crowd he had a conversation inside of his head. 'What kind of fighter above land would I be? A close range fighter would give him, even more, overwhelming strength. However, fighting from a distance would make fights easier than usual. Technically with his fruit, he fought from a distance due to never really exposing his body unless he was required to. Yet, ballistic weapons were effective against non-fruit users. By that, he thought about guns, granted he wasn't one to kill just because he needed a means of defending himself. Not to mention he could use rubber bullets or riot shells to disable a target from afar. He did have a keen eye, little did he know his father was also a sniper. So it was only natural that his mind drifts towards the usage of ranged weaponry. It was in his genes to want to use this form of fighting. But it did dawn on him, why not have the best of all worlds. Be greedy in this aspect, use ranged weapons in a close ranged fashion, develop a new fighting style that used weaponry as well as his body. Even combining aspects of his fruit into the mix.' He thought.

It wasn't long before Lucas found himself in the shopping district. Small shops lined the sidewalks with all sorts of life passing by. A certain shop caught his eye, Sam's Smithery. He couldn't explain it, but Lucas found himself wandering into the shop. A vast assortment of basic weaponry lined the walls with a counter at the back of the shop. As he entered the door hit the bell on the way in signaling the entrance of a patron. “Hello?” Lucas's voice echoed through the vacant store upon entry. He looked around at the possible paths he could choose.

Brrt! Brrt!

An alarm began blaring in the distance, quickly making its way closer and closer. When it had come into a range that made it impossible to ignore, the bat mink sat up in his bed. Rather than a moving alarm, it was just the one he set each night to wake him for work the next morning. Always a rude awakening, the mink rubbed the sleep from his eyes as he swung his legs off the side of the bed to begin his morning routine.

Formerly Sam's domicile, the living space that Devroux now occupied was aged, to say the least. The pipes were old and it took time for the water to heat, but the worst part of showering was the size of it. The mink, wings and all, was too large to properly bathe himself. Each morning began with acrobatics of sorts just to get himself clean enough to be seen in public, but each morning he managed to get the act over with and come out properly showered. After that, breakfast, teeth brushing, and the rest of the morning routine were simple tasks.

When finished with his morning routine, Dev would exit his newfound home, descending the stairs and rounding the corner of the building. Within a few steps he'd reach a barred, glass door which he'd unlock and enter, switching on all the lights in preparation for the work day ahead of him. There wasn't a long walk or reason to fly, something that wasn't necessarily good, but after a long day, the close proximity of his work place to his living place couldn't be argued with.

As soon as the lights were on, the mink would move to the back of the shop where the tools of the trade were located. He had several projects on back-order that needed to be completed, so he always began with the oldest project first. Heating, hammering, and finely crafting each piece of equipment was a tedious job, but the evenly paced noise was relaxing in its own right. Dev could fall into a groove, hammering to a set rhythm and losing himself in his work - all until a customer would enter the shop.

The front door was rigged with a small bell. The noise was light, but it was distinct against the rhythm of his hammer on the heated steel. As soon as this bell rang, he dropped what he was doing to re-enter the front portion of the shop and greet his new client. On this day, it was a younger looking blond man - or child - it was hard for the mink to tell.

"Good morning, sir," Dev answered the man's call. "Welcome to Sam's Smithery. What might I be able to do for you today?"

Lucas looked up and down at the weapons hanging on the wall. A vast assortment of goods just out in the open meant a few things. Whoever was the owner of the shop ran a tight ship. Most people wouldn't just leave the storefront open like this without some level of confidence. Then again stealing a weapon in plain view of the store would be foolish. A being came out of the back room, completely draped in black. He or she looked like a creature of the night. Lucas wasn't one to assume one's gender especially if they weren't human. 'Mink?' He thought to himself as the figure came around the corner. Lucas continued to eyeball the weapons on the wall. He squatted down and really stared at the craft of each weapon. As Lucas heard the mink's voice he stood up once more and walked over to the front counter.

“Howdy!”

After saying the name of the shop, Lucas could only assume one thing. “I am guessing you are Sam? The names Lucas, its a pleasure. Fine shop ya got here...”

Lucas looked at the weapons rack behind Sam. This caused him to stop mid-sentence, Lucas found what he was looking for. The rifles, handguns, and shotguns rested on behind Sam. That is what Lucas was really looking for. His eye seemed to shimmer with the thought of wielding such a weapon. It was as if it was meant for him to use such tools.

“You got to excuse me, I am admiring the craftsmanship of the items behind you. I am looking for something with a bit of kick close range and a handgun if possible.”

"Actually, Sam was the former owner. I'm just running things now," Dev spoke up, a genuine smile on his face over the misconception. "My name is Devroux. Or Dev."

The mink watched his customer eye the equipment strung up on the wall. The man took a long moment to admire all of it, but not once did his eyes wander from the firearms to the other weaponry. Dev had managed to sell some firearms before, but the overwhelmingly popular items were always swords and various pieces of armor, so it would be nice to sell some of the guns he had stocked up. The man's word's didn't betray that line of thinking either.

"Ah, well, thank you. I try my best. I can do a handgun for you, but there a couple options for close-range firearms that may be suitable. I have a long-barrel shotgun that's good for up to 30 meters and a short-barrel shotgun that's good for up to 20. It's up to use-case from there."

Even as he said this, there were numerous device schematics running through the mink's mind. Given enough time, he could craft almost anything. As long as the customer communicated what they needed he'd be willing to at least try and craft them something that'd impress. Any chance to get creative was also more than welcome to him, as he spent a lot of time crafting swords and daggers, which took a toll on him emotionally.

Lucas was swiftly corrected on the name of the new owner. “I apologize for assuming, It's a pleasure Dev.” Lucas only made eye contact for a moment before looking at the ballistic weaponry again. Most pirates favored melee weapons, rarely did you see a known pirate that toted around these kinds of weapons. Maybe it was time to change that. Devroux explained the situation, of Lucas's desires.

“That all sounds perfect! The question is long barrel or short.” He said for a moment thinking. The cogs in his head began to turn once more. 'Long barrel could be cumbersome, but it does have a longer range. Then again shotguns are best at close range due to spread. So it is looking like short barrel for the best option here. Not to mention sneak attacks from below would be easier with a shorter barrel.'

After his little inner powwow with himself. He came to the conclusion on that short barrel would be optimal option here. “Short barrel will be perfect for me. I won't be shooting ng from a short distance anyways. As long as it has that kick I think I will be fine. I am assuming being a blacksmith shop you will have to craft these things.” Luckily Lucas wasn't in a rush, if the blacksmith was fast he would be out of the shop in no time.

“As a small request engrave LD on the side of the weapon if possible.”

Lucas had a deeper reasoning for wanting to do so. The L stood for his first name and the D stood for Dagon. His adopted family, even though his real last name was Sturm. He wasn't raised by his biological father due to unfortunate reasons.

Devroux contemplated for a second, giving the display equipment a glance as he thought about the supplies he had in the back. The display equipment wasn't fitted with the trigger mechanisms that made them capable of firing, but he did have casings, sanded wood, and other parts already pre-made to make fulfilling orders easier. Luckily, he already had a pistol completely made in back since they were more common sales than a shotgun.

"I have to assemble the equipment, but it shouldn't take too terribly long. I don't like making people wait, so I have supplies prepared ahead of time. The engraving shouldn't take too long either - it's a simple addition. Feel free to have a look around; I'll be done in no time."

Dev turned and made his way into the back, leaving his customer to his own at the front. The mink took a second to look around his shop for the supplies he needed, finding most of the parts needed for a shotgun. The casings and trigger mechanisms were the same when it came to long and short barrel, which left the only difference in the barrel length. Because of that, it was the only part he'd need to craft from scratch, which still cut down the total crafting time by a decent amount.

Taking a hunk of metal to the flame, he let the piece warm until it began to give off a bright orange glow. Retrieving it from the embers Dev began to hammer it into the correct shape, returning it to the heat to keep it malleable. While it was still warm the mink began to bore the hole through the worked steel. Having done this many times prior the process had become much simpler and he was able to keep the hole straight with greater ease. From start to finish the process of fashioning the barrel was under an hour, most of that time being taken to heat up the steel in order to make it workable.

Once the barrel had been finished, the assembly of the parts took roughly twenty minutes. This included the initial assembly, tightening the right spots, and checking to make sure the the trigger and mechanics as a whole all moved smoothly. After checking to make sure it all worked one last time, Dev gave engraved the side of the shotgun with the LD as requested, an action that was simple in comparison and easy to keep up in quality. Filing the letters down to prevent sharp edges, the mink then gave both the shotgun and the pistol a polishing before bringing both weapons out to the front.

Setting the firearms down on the counter, he gestured to them proudly for the customer to look over. "Sorry for the wait. Everything's been handmade and checked to guarantee quality, my name hangs on it now."

Lucas smiled at Devroux's response, he wasn't going to be too long in the store. “Aye, I will take a look around, no rush.” He replied. It was better than it was faster due to just turning in a major bounty head. Not that he was worried about the beli getting stolen, just the fact he needed to get out of the district because he could have been followed. Dev went into the back to begin working, Lucas left him to his job. Meanwhile, Lucas walked around the store to kill some time. He took a few moments at each section of the store to really admire the work that was done on the items. Lucas knew a lot of these items were for display purposes as it was better to get something fresh off the iron than something that been sitting around for a while. Unless it was some legendary or cursed weapon. Which you seldom find in a shop. It would be something that was found in a museum or held in the hands of someone notable. Maybe just lost to time and waiting to be found by its destined partner.

Lucas heard the sounds of the mink working in the back. Dev would have no idea what kind of trouble followed Lucas around due to being an unknown in the Calico pirates. Far as Devroux knew he was just some pirate trying to get some weaponry. He didn't want Dev to get involved in his trouble, granted the mink looked as if he could handle himself rather well due to all the weapons in the shop. Regardless Lucas wasn't a fan of dragging people into his personal problems. Then again attracting unnecessary attention wasn't too smart neither. He wasn't aware of Devroux's alignment in the world. Granted Lucas assumed neutral due to owning a shop on an island dominated by the Mafia, Revolutionaries, and Pirates. Being a Marine here would be something to keep quiet about unless they near the marine base in the district.

It was roughly thirty minutes before Devroux emerged from the back room. He brandished two weapons born from fire. Lucas walked back over to the counter and looked over the weapons with almost glowing eyes. He carefully eyed the craftsmanship, cradling them like newborns one at a time.

“They are everything he wanted and more,” Lucas said while reaching into his back pocket and pulling out some beli (crafting points). He put a lump sum on the counter, “Keep the change.” Lucas took the pistol and placed it in on his right side in his pants like a typical pirate. The handle hung out of the front of his pants for quick reach. Afterward, he took the shotgun and held the handle with his left while the barrel rested on his left shoulder. “I will have to make some holsters for these bad boys but this will do. It was a pleasure doing business with you Devroux. When I need some more work done I will be sure to stop by again.” Ammo wasn't required to be bought because Lucas knew the ship had a wide variety in the armory. He could pull from there when he got back with the Beli.

Lucas walked out the front door, he looked back at the blacksmith, “Till next time friend.”

Sam's Smithery, when still under the ownership of Sam, was a small-time smithery that found most of its work going to continued customers. Since Dev had taken over, the youthful work ethic had seen business come up, but the location of the shop wasn't quite as beneficial as it could have been, nor did he have the work hands necessary to mete out the requests that a larger shop would get. He worked hard just the same, as he wanted to keep the business going if at all possible. Every craft was performed with care, even if some of the parts were created ahead of time for the sake of cutting time come the opportunity of sale. Although Devroux didn't fancy himself to be widely appreciative of people's feelings, it still felt good to make a customer happy.

"Anything you need, feel free to drop by," he spoke, giving a wave to Lucas as he left. The man was now strapped with firearms, but he also didn't look as if they were completely necessary. Though, for as many weapons as Dev liked to carry around, he could understand and appreciate the concept of 'over-preparation'.
