Victoria had only recently reached the grand line and joined up under Commodore Roaringson and as the entire unit went undercover to investigate Jaya in order to assess if there were any true threats to that of the Innocent though they were under orders to not take any actions of a Marine nature and thus just to have fun free while they could.

Victoria would not be wearing her regular marine uniform but that of a casual nature. A simple red top, a Black leather jacket, knee lengthed blue jean shorts and ankle-high black boots not to mention at her side a holstered Revolver. On arriving on Jaya island Victoria would make the choice to wander around herself in the attempt to do her own investigation to develop and understand to the range in personality types of Pirates and the spectrum of evil.

Entering a somewhat poss tavern well-built oak tables spread around the place, a solid bar going forming a square at the center of the establishment facing all sides for service. It would seem as if today there were several chess boards within the room pre-setup as the owner was a huge fan of the game with a dream that all conflict could be solved over a simple game of chess. Victoria didn't share this sentiment however she did enjoy a good competitive game of wits and thus she would call out in the tavern "Anyone want a game?!". At which point a waiter would come over to take Victoria's order "Excuse me Milady, but may I take your order" Victoria would think for a moment, as she looked up to the left "Yeah id have Jack Danials mixed with some lemonade" Victoria would say with a pleasing smile on her face "Coming right up".

After having surgery on five patients, where he had to treat conditions that dealt with the lungs, heart and kidney; oh yeah, he also had to cut off a leg. Kouse was quite tired.
A full days job as a doctor was an exhausting one, especially when one had to go about catching up with the activities of his crew for a couple more hours at night.

Kouse however decided to take a much deserved break at the tavern. He took a seat and ordered vodka. He needed a break from work and duties, even if it only lasted for a short while.
Then he heard the question from a female wearing a red top and a black jacket.

'anyone want a game?'

Kouse shrugged to himself as he took another sip of his vodka and walked over to her, it might be a good way to while away the time.

"Not sure I'll be able to play but I'm interested." Kouse would take a seat right next to her. "I'm Dr K by the way, nice to meet you."
Black long sleeved top and black trousers with his glasses made up his simple but casual attire.

"So, what game are we talking about?."

Victoria would watch as the man known as Dr. K would approach her introducing himself in a polite manner though she was quite confused by his question as she took a brief moment of time to look down at the board before her filled with several pieces before looking back at Dr. K. With a slight sarcasm about her eyes and a smirk upon her face Victoria would introduce herself  "I'm Victoria, and the game we will play is Chess". The waiter would return "Excuse me, your drink" Looking up at the waiter would simply nod her head and say "Thank you" with a slight slithers of appreciation behind her words or at least she attempted to place it their, she didn't really care it was his job after all. Victoria would take a sip of her drink before returning her attention to Dr. k. "Under the impression your new to the game, so id briefly explain the rules"

"Each of these pieces represents something in war and moves in their own unique way with the final objective to secure the treasure.... The King." Victoria would move her center pawn on the square E2 to the Square E4. "We each get one move per turn, oh and this is called a Pawn it can move forward only one square unless it's your first move with said pawn at which point it can move Two".  Victoria would lean slightly inward towards Dr. K as her eyes filled with anticipation as the moment of truth approached was this man before her smart enough to pick up the game, or someone who would need actual practice.

Kouse took another sip of vodka as the lady said her name was Victoria. He always prided himself of being able to detect and differentiate the regulars on jaya and those who are new on it, and this was also the case with Victoria.

Kouse adjusted his glasses as she explained the game quickly for him. He'd never played it before, but he had heard people playing it, constantly betting money and weapons, and fights frequently erupting when the loser was a sore one.
He had never had the chance to learn with his extremely busy daily schedule, besides he never saw the need to learn it, he wasn't interested in gambling nor was he interested in getting into pointless fights with some stranger who couldn't handle being a loser.

But now, Kouse was intrigued by the game for the very first time.

"Hmm, the pawn ehh?." Kouse mused. "I take it the other pieces around the table have different roles too?"

With that question he would make his move, he knew winning on his first try was impossible, but he was not playing to win, but to while away time, whilst relaxing a bit.

He reached out and moved his pawn from C7 to C5.

Victoria would listen carefully to the words spoken by Dr.K as he attempted to learn the game making his first move "You are quite correct every piece has its own purpose, for Example, this one is called a Knight, or Horsey if u want to be weird" Victoria would pick up her left Knight on the square B1 moving it to C3. Victoria takes another sip of her Drink before continuing to elaborate on what she had just done. "For the most part pieces can't go past others but in the case of the Knight it can jump, and this is a very valuable player" Victoria would think for a moment as she takes a second sip. Placing her hands together and resting her chin on their top Victoria would speak with a sort of curious tone "Picture it like your playmaker, the Swift assassin" Victoria would point how the piece moves one horizontal in any direction followed by 2 horizontal in any direction "Basically its an L shape combo"

The waiter would come over to the table and would slightly bow on arrival "Excuse me, are both of you okay? do you need any more drinks?" he would say in a nervous manner, it was often just approaching a customer would result in a hostile response and he didn't know the pair sitting at the table. Victoria would place her hand gently on the man's elbow as she could feel his nerves radiating from him like a sweating pig "You don't need to be like that with me, oh and yeah Id have another drink" taking little breath "Same as before". Victoria would remove her hand from his elbow and turn her attention to Dr.K.

"Hmm, a horsey you say?" Kouse mused as he took another sip of his vodka whilst studying the board intently. Then he watched as she moved her Knight from B1 to C3.

"Interesting, the pawns you showed me earlier can only move once on their first move, but twice after that. Now the knights can move past other pieces and take them down?" Kouse adjusted his glasses as his interest in the game began to rise slowly.

Victoria went on to suggest the knight pieces were like an assassin or playmaker.

With his eyes squinted Kouse moved his pawn from E7 to E6. He looked straight at Victoria's face, hoping for a hint there that he was doing alright, but her poker face was impeccable.

Kouse finished up his cup of vodka just as the waiter came by. Kouse felt that they would be here for sometime, and he had to keep himself from getting too drunk, so he could still make use of his brain to think.

So he asked for a bottle of beer instead.
Kouse looked at the other strange looking pieces scattered behind his first line of pawns and wondered what special roles and abilities those pieces also held. Ignoring playing this game nor any other board game for so long was slowly seeming like a mistake, it had to do with making use of your intellect, to make use of your pieces on the board to take down the pieces of your opponent's, using strategies and tactics.

"Alright Victoria, its your move." Kouse said as the waiter walked away to get their drinks.

"They can move once or twice on their first move, and once after that" Victoria would raise an eyebrow as her teachings appeared to half sink in, however once Dr. K had moved his centre to E7 and thus Victoria second eyebrow would raise out of sheer surprise. Victoria would smirk "So you're playing the French Sicilian, interesting" Victoria would become curious about who this individual was and thus would ask two questions while placing her hand on the pointed piece just right of her King on F1. "So Dr. K. What brings you to Jaya you don't seem like the average block head Iv'e seen running around" Victoria would move the pointed piece to C4 "I see you mix up your drinks, not much of a drinker are you?.

Before giving Dr. K. A change to Victoria would clap her hands together gentle as she used her two index fingers to point towards the pointed piece she just moved "This piece is called a Bishop, it can move as far as it wants on any Diagonal line, however, it can't jump like the Knight". Victoria would lean back to take a quick glance at the waiter who was currently pouring their drinks "He's taking longer than usual" Victoria would think to herself as her attention returned to Dr. K. As she anticipated his answers to her questions her suspicion would grow as to what the answers might be. "I wonder if he will play his Knight on G8 to E7 next"

Kouse studied the board intently as Victoria spoke.

"French Sicilian?" Kouse echoed, right after Victoria. "I'm just going with my gut feeling here." Kouse would reach out to tap his Knight, already thinking of his next move even as Victoria was about to play hers. Her hand landed on the pointed piece just to the right of her Knight and hesitated on it.
Her words made Kouse casually adjust his glasses as he wondered more about the piece with a crown on its top and how it must surely be an important one.

"I'm a pirate." Kouse watched as she moved her piece to C4. "I think that's all the information necessary for one to explain why they are on jaya." Kouse would lightly tap his Knight on G8, he would like to place it in front of the piece with the crown, if it was as important as he thought.

"The piece with the crown, at E8, what is its role." Kouse asked as he continued watching the board closely. "Also, yeah, I don't care much for getting drunk....it dulls the senses and makes one all the more vulnerable."

Kouse nodded as Victoria explained the abilities of a new piece, the bishop. It was unique because it could move diagonally across the board, and as far as possible. It couldn't jump other pieces like the knight and it wasn't restricted to one square per move like the pawn.

His mind was made up on his next move, he reached out to touch his Knight piece on G8 and would look directly at Victoria for the first time.

"But the real question is, what you're doing on jaya."

Kouse's incredible abilities of deduction and sharp mind, made him able to notice that Victoria in fact wasn't from Jaya. The way she conversed with the waiter had further served to peak Kouse's interest, and her not knowing who he was?, well that even increased his suspicions.

The moment Kouse asked the question he would move his piece to E7, his eyes still staring directly at Victoria.

Victoria would quickly move the conversation into the game itself, in order to give herself time to think of her reply, Raising her expression to that of one who was excited even though it was somewhat fake but not exactly a false representation of her emotions, she was quite happy and chilled out. "I'm glad your mind drew you to that of The King" Victoria would say while trying to make it sound more enticing "It's not just the most important piece of the game but the Objective of Victory" "Hmm he's a pirate aye, I thought as much, not exactly a hungry slosh though" she thought to herself".  "The king can move one square in any direction and is the prime focus of the game, you play your pieces to attempt to trap the enemy King, to do so you simply have something attacking it while leaving him with nowhere to go"  Victoria would move her Knight on G1 to C3.

Her mind was now clear and she had a moment to think of her reply to his question, despite him being a pirate she didn't exactly want to lie to the man "Well, I'm here visiting the island with a few friends, I figured id relax and ended up here" Her own gaze would remain focused on Dr.K "So, is Dr a fun add-on? or are you an actual doctor?

Kouse adjusted his glasses at Victoria's compliment.

"Well, I guessed he'd be an important piece for on the board, he's got a crown after all." Kouse joked.
Victoria then explained how the King piece could move and how important a piece it actually was.
He was right to move his Knight to protect his King. He wasn't sure of his next move, but he hoped her next play would make him think of one. Kouse still saw some of pieces he didn't know their names or usefulness yet, he hoped Victoria explained it to him, soon enough.
She moved her on G1 to C3.

Kouse adjusted his glasses as he mused over her move. She seemed to be interested in protecting her bishop piece with her Knight.

Then she answered his question.

Kouse would finally drop his stare to look at the board. "hmm, alright that makes some sense." Kouse would say.

"Well, I'm a real doctor, with a hospital just around the corner."
Kouse would say whilst staring intently at the board.
After a few moments of thinking, he decided to use his Knight to also protect his bishop and moved it from B8 to C6.

"So, tell me before you came here to relax with friends, what do you do?."

Hmm, another Dilma would strike the mind of Victoria as she focused on the board, once again who she was had come up into the conversation and this time she didn't feel like dragging out her answer "Well, I lost my memories due to quite a serious event... I killed someone quite brutally, they were attacking my family and stuff but long story short I'm now part of a crew, and hoping to regain my memories; apparently i used to be quite the scientific mind" The waiter would return with their drinks placing them firmly on the table, taking a glance at the board before leaving "Thank you" Victoria would say before placing her hand on her King.

"Now pay attention, this is what we call castling and a move you can only do ONCE on condition the space between your King, and Rook is clear. Furthermore, if you have moved your king previously you can no longer implement a Castling move". Victoria would move her king two space to her right from E1 to G1 at which point she would also move her Rock on H1 to F1 to the opposite side of her King. "Did you catch what I just did?" Victoria would say expecting him to miss a step. Victoria would take a sip of her drink.

Kouse knew he was prying a bit, asking more about her but he didn't care. He was normally much more reserved than this and minded his damn business. It was no business of his why she was on Jaya anyhow, but he felt especially chatty today, he could both blame the alcohol and that Victoria herself had begun asking the questions.

"Wow, I'm sorry to hear that." Kouse said whilst adjusting his glasses. "You might not have heard much about this, but there currently isn't yet a sure medical way to recover one's memories."

Kouse would turn to look at Victoria.

"But after reading countless books on it, I've acquired some tips that have helped my patients with their memories over the years." Kouse looked to see if Victoria was interested in the information he was about to give, and if she was would proceed after accepting his beer. "Stay mentally active, Socialize regularly, Get organized ,Sleep well, Eat a healthy diet and lastly but not least, Include physical activity in your daily routine." Kouse would finish as he took a sip of his beer.
Kouse couldn't help himself, he couldn't stop himself from giving out advice and health tips even though it wasn't asked for, his past experience played a major part in that flaw.

Then Victoria made a move that she called a 'castling,' moving two pieces in one move, she moved her king from E1 to G1 then her Rock from H1 to F1.

Kouse's attention was immediately drawn back to the board. He looked intently at her move as she asked if he understood what she did.

"Well, you moved two pieces which up till now didn't know was possible, but other than that, I'm stumped." Kouse would admit and wait for Victoria to explain further. She'd only explained what conditions had to be met for the 'castling' move to be successful.

After she explained further, Kouse would make his move.
Moving his pawn from A7 to A6.
This game just kept getting more complex with every move.

Victoria would take a moment to digest the medical advice she had received and would simply reply with a mellow tone as she took another sip of her drink. "Thank you, I'm not too fussed about recovering my memories, like, I'm, happy at the moment..." a slight pause "Maybe if I feel lost within myself id remember the advice you have given me" Victoria would wink as she smiled.  Victoria would find her eyes ravaging across the board as this was the first moment since they started that she would need to think ahead, however, she would deem no real threat to her forces. Victoria would simply smile as she moved her pawn on A2 to A3 "Nice try".

"I might as well explain another piece.... The rook" Victoria points to the piece she has on A1 "This is called a rook, and can move as far as it likes horizontally and is considered a very powerful piece, not only can a single Rook win you the game but working in junction with your other it can be quite devastating " Victoria would point to a pawn "This is valued one" She would point to a bishop and a knight "These are valued 3" proceeds to point to the Rook  "Valued 5" points to the piece that was previously next to her king "This is the queen Valued at 8". Victoria would take a sip of her drink "I do apologize that I can't give any free advice in return".   Victoria would begin processing the next five moves she expected to take place, "Hmm I need to show him how to actually capture, not a good opportunity yet" she thought to herself.

Victoria moved her pawn from A2 to A3, which caused Kouse to flinch involuntarily for a moment. He could almost feel that Victoria's move had restricted his movements somewhat, but he wasn't sure.
Her saying 'nice try' after her move further made Kouse think more of his next move.
She then began explaining yet another piece. One called the rook.

It had a unique ability just like all the other pieces, it could move as far as it likes, but only horizontally. She then pointed to a pawn and stated it had a value of one, then to a knight and bishop which were valued at 3, then to a rook, valued at 5. Then finally to the queen, which was valued by 8 and was therefore the most important piece on the board.

Kouse studied the board after Victoria was done talking. He now knew how all the pieces could move, they were each unique and would surely give some entertainment moving them around the board, but was that really all that this game was about?.

Kouse took another sip of his beer. If it were, Kouse could see himself tiring quickly of the game.
Touching his pawn on G7, he moved it to G6.

"Nice" Victoria would say as she realized he was preparing a powerful defense that would be difficult to break if she didn't start her preparations now. "Before I make my move, I best tell you how the final piece moves" Victoria would point to her Queen on D1."This piece can move how many squares it wants in any direction, however, like the rook and bishop it can't Jump, Furthermore, I should add that if one was to lose such a powerful piece carelessly their defeat would all be but assured" Victoria would pick up her D2 pawn and move it to D4

She takes a sip of her drink before continuing to explain the next feature of the game. "Right, How do we Capture?" Victoria would pause for a moment before continuing "Well we're playing a game that represents war and in war, things get Captured. In nearly all cases to Capture you simply move yours to the square your target is located if possible, however, the pawn takes Digionally not forward for example my D4 pawn could take your C5 pawn and vis versa".

"He seems to be developing quite quickly he understands the importance of a good defence and how to empower with an outposted bishop, not to mention he attempted to trap my own bishiop with his pawn structure, quite impressive" Victoria would say thinking to herself as it was nearlly time to take of the training wheels.
