Cassius had been drifting beneath the docks of Baltigo, quietly and peacefully listening to the murmurs of living voices on the docks above. The moon sat large and round in the night sky and although it was far later than anyone should be awake, the docks of Baltigo never rested. While not eavesdropping on any one conversation, Cassius at times felt at ease when he could listen to the general hum of life and voices without being detected. He felt disengaged from the world during these times, above it all yet really right next to it. The voices rarely took on individual words but instead formed a buzzing of white-noise that often soothed him. That was until he heard several pairs of boots marching in unison and then,

We're looking for a fishman, supposedly around seven-feet tall with squid or octopus-like tentacles on his face. If you've seen him or have any information on his whereabouts please alert the nearest Marine patrol. If you are harboring him as a fugitive know that you will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.

Cassius's ears perked up at the very well detailed description of himself on the wooden planks above. He mentally slapped himself in the face and wanted to groan but restricted himself for fear of being heard. Obviously that bartender hadn't been able to keep his mouth shut. Now there was a Marine patrol after him for that idiot Guzman's murder. There was truly never a dull moment on this godforsaken island and he was beginning to learn that the hard way.

Silently, he dipped under the water and swam slowly and methodically towards shore as the boots above him began to move closer inland. Stepping onto dry land, Cassius didn't bother retrieving his clothes from his dry pack, instead grabbing hold of the rusted ladder and slowly climbing the rungs to the top so he could just see over the lip of the pier. He stared down to the right of the pier which moved inland on the docks and noticed a Marine patrol of about six men spread about the docks questioning anyone and everyone unfortunate to get within five feet of them.

To his left he stared down the rows and rows of ships docked for the night. Some still had lanterns burning, others had gone completely dark for the night. One in particular stood out as a decent sized Marine vessel, lanterns full ablaze. There'd be no sleeping allowed on that vessel tonight, not while a supposed murderer was on the loose in the streets of Baltigo.

Stepping back down the ladder, Cassius returned to the water, slipping beneath its shadowed surface to start to form a plan. On the one hand he could simply hide out and wait for the heat to die down. On the other he'd have to spend the next couple of weeks looking over his shoulder until the Marines eventually were called off for some other mission or simply got bored and left. His face wasn't exactly the easiest to hide and besides, the Marines didn't scare him in the least. If he was going to kick the hornet's nest though, he wanted to make sure he got the entire hive in one blow.

Swimming through the docks and towards the Marine vessel, Cassius inspected the hull of the ship from beneath the surface. He ran his webbed hand across the wooden frame of the ship, searching for weak points or past repairs that would be easy to work with. After a quick search, he managed to find a patch spot of new wood that had replaced what Cassius imagined to be prior damage from a skirmish with a cannonball.

Moving quickly he brought his fist back before driving a hole through the new wood patch. Immediately, salt ocean water began rushing into the gap he had made, filling the inside and beginning the sinking process. Poking just the top of his head out from the water, Cassius listened for movement aboard the ship.

At first there was nothing, only the silence of the night mixed with the far off voices of sailors farther down the docks. Then, voices chattering,
Oi, Earnie get down here, we sprung a leak.
Jackson, wake Old Cecil, he's gonna need to patch this thing up.
Damn, that's a big spot, how'd that happen you think?

Voices stirred in the night air as more and more of the crew came down to investigate the leak. Cassius dove below the water, finding the hole he chanced a look through it. Using the the dark water as protection from their sight, Cassius attempted to study the interior of the ship and their movements. The Marines currently in the bottom of the ship simply stared at the hole chattering about it like bafoons. Whoever Old Cecil was, apparently he was the only one competent enough to actually fix a leak.

Cassius shook his head,
Humans. He muttered to himself before bringing his fist back again and sending it through the hull to form another leak. Almost immediately it brought about the response he had been looking for,
That's no leak! We're being sabotaged.
We're under attack!
Warn the others, ring the bell, call them back. Men to arms, we must find this ghastly sea creature and deal with it post haste.

The room seemed to explode with voices as the Marines began scrambling to fix the issue, each running off in a different direction as the water now poured in even faster than before. Cassius just stared through the holes in amusement, shaking his head and chuckling to himself underwater. Above him someone had made it to the top deck and the bells to call back the rest of the Marines began to ring frantically.

As the bell rang, Cassius knew he had to move quickly before the other Marines made it to the ship. He moved farther down the pier, away from Baltigo and listened carefully. Quickly a mixture of shouts and the stomping of boots along planks of wood filled the midnight air. He paused, waiting patiently to time their approach just right. If he waited too long the patrol would board the ship and it'd be for not. If he struck too quickly he wouldn't be able to get the entire patrol in one fell swoop. Finally, he unleashed a shockwave through the water, splintering several of the support pillars holding up the walkway. Immediately the pier splintered and fell, taking with it six Marines into the dark depths below.

Cassius flashed forward, his speed heightened by his natural terrain and quickly began picking off the Marines one by one. Caught by surprise and suddenly submerged in water, they floundered frantically, trying to sift through the broken planks of wood, fallen barrels and crates, all the while blinded by the black salt water sea. Meanwhile Cassius navigated the chaos perfectly, nimbly swimming between sinking pieces of debris to come up behind sinking Marines. A simple twist of the neck was enough for some, while others he simply dragged down farther and then squeezed the air out of their lungs. He'd watch as they scrambled upwards towards the dim light, already out of breath only to drown halfway there.

Cassius counted five Marines floating towards the surface and wondered if he had missed one or he had avoided the collapsing dock at the last minute somewhere. Frantically he searched the bay floor in case an object had struck him and killed him before Cassius could get to him. Instead he heard a garbled version of,
Help! Help us, the fishman is down here! He's killing-

Cassius yanked the man back down below the water, he stared into the Marine's eyes, finding the deepest fear a human could experience before reaching forward with the tentacles on his face, seizing the man's head and giving it a quick yank, snapping his life and ending his fear. A sudden pain shot through Cassius's left arm as he let the Marine body go and float to the surface to join his crew.

He looked down to see a cloud of crimson spreading from a wound in his arm, where a bullet had grazed him. Confused, he looked up towards the surface to see men in white coats and attire with rifles pointed into the water.

Cassius swore to himself, there had been another patrol he hadn't seen and they must have been further away, reaching the pier after the collapse. They couldn't see Cassius but in their panic they began firing anyway, hoping to cover distance. Cassius had to move quickly to avoid any lucky shots. He seized the previously killed Marine before his body could breach the surface and, using the body as a sort of bullet shield umbrella, swam with it over his head towards the Marine ship.

He considered leaving now, in the water and protected under the cover of night he'd be impossible to track, but killing six Marines would only solve his problems short term. This would only make the Marines angrier, make them pursue him even more. He had to strike fear in their hearts, disable them and show them he wasn't someone to be trifled with.

Cassius turned in the water, making his way back towards the sinking Marine ship. He found one of the two holes he had made earlier with some minor patchwork being done, stemming the flow to just a steady leak rather than a gushing wound. He punched forward three times, widening the hole in the hull of the ship enough for him to squeeze through. Inside he stood in waist deep water, staring at the shocked faces of several Marine engineers. He stared at them in silence, the tendrils on his face moving freely and independently on their own, truly showing the monster side of him.

Suddenly one Marine began scrambling, reaching for the pistol in his waistband, in the rising water however, Cassius was faster. He dove down and covered the distance between them in a flash, rising from the water and grabbing the Marine's shooting hand just as he pulled the pistol free. Cassius spun him around, bending his arm uncomfortably until the pistol dropped into his own webbed hand. He then held the Marine up against him, facing his friends with Cassius's back to the wood of the ship and the gun to the Marine's temple.

Hi there gents, my name is Cassius Sinclair, based on what your dead friends said earlier I'm the fishman you're looking for. Your friend Guzman was an idiot and died a coward, so ask yourself whether or not it's really worth meeting the same fate he did to avenge a moron. If you'd like to keep this up, you're welcome to pursue me, just take a good look at the bodies of your comrades when you fish them out of the bay later tonight before you make your decision. Goodnight gentlemen.

Cassius said before lowering the pistol to the back of the Marine's knee and firing once. The Marine shouted in pain as he collapsed into the water, Cassius following after him as he struck the bottom of the boat with another flurry of strikes, opening up a third hole in the hull and escaping into the sea.

Between the damage already sustained, the now injured bleeding, and if his crewmates didn't move quickly, drowning Marine they'd have to struggle to pull out of the water and up onto a higher deck, and the new hole he had opened in the bottom, Cassius had little doubt the Marine ship would be at the bottom of the bay within the next fifteen minutes. There was no way for the other Marine patrol to get to their ship and help with repairs, what with the pier floating splintered in the sea. All in all Cassius swam off into the night with a smile, content with the damage he had done and the message he had sent.
