The meeting was something else. He didn't know this place was in such a state. 'I have to do my part.' Hannibal would think to himself as he and a group that wasn't the one he arrived to the island with headed to one of the small islands. There weren't any big names there that he was going to put down. On the contrary the absence of Marines is the reason this group was heading over. Hannibal did have a uneasy feeling as they traveled. No one spoke to him. He heard their whispers however.

"Three eye'd scum...."

"How can a 'Hero' be someone of that race."

"I know right. I lost people during the time of the calamities."

"Time of the calamities? You speak as if we still aren't in those times. People have just been overlooking it due to more shit going down. "

"I agree. They forget it is because of those extra eye'd bastards and that so called Pirate King."

They spoke pretty loudly but Hannibal ignored them. He just kept leaning against the railing and gazing outward at the sea as they approached the small island. Though some held lower ranks others ranked equal to his own he would not confront any of them. The best way to shut them up is to show them they were wrong. And even if they still hated him he didn't care. He fought on the side of the World Government because he knew it was the right thing to do. He did however feel Birdal would have words for him. As Birdal did say once his true identity was revealed being a Marine would be extremely hard. And that joining the Cipher Pol would be even harder. Hannibal was fine with this however, as he was tired of hiding himself.

As he made his way to the boat, the sun’s shine had been snuffed out by the great sooty clouds; unleashing a cold rain down in the mists below. He arrived on the muddy dock, for a lack of a better word. It was nothing more than a few planks nailed to tree barks; rickety and groaning with each step. He had made it just in time, as the boat was already untethered and ready to leave. He wordlessly jumped on board, as no gangplank was put out; sending the boat into a bit of a stagger under his weight.

Cold disrelishing eyes looked at him, a hush falling upon their lips, the pattering of rain filling the air for just a moment before they turned their attention back to whatever it was previously held by and the mummers began again.

Although he heard none of the regular insults from their mutterings, as he made his way to the back of the boat; the deck lined with a parallel set of wooden benches, filled with huddled white figures of blue and white huddled with their hands wrapped around their rifles, near identical to one another, as if the fog was mirroring them all. Although the murmurs were lined with hate and disdain, it seemed that they were not towards him. At least most of them were not. Even though he did not mind the change, the fact it was not towards the foe they were going to face made the fact far from a welcome change.

The vessel would soon dock at a battered port. The area had seen it's fair share of conflict. If you gazed further passed the current position you'd see that there was a moderate sized mining camp passed the docking area. Hannibal himself wondered why they'd dock here. But pushed the thought off due to this might being the only safe place to dock their vessel. He'd move from his spot on the ship and begin to stretch. As during the journey he stayed in one spot and kept to himself. A bit stiff but he stretched and the walking that followed began to loosen him up. Catching a few glares as he made his way over to the ladder to disembark the ship.

"Alright, break up! Break up! Ten squads of five!"

There wasn't a clear cut way to break up the groups but many went to those they felt most comfortable working with. Right now this breaking up really didn't matter as they still had to all leave from the port area and passed the camp. Hannibal, like everyone else, was aware that those they were looking for were deep in the Island.

Hannibal stood there amazed that no one willingly came over to him. 'Do they fear me?' and 'Do they hate me?' were the two thoughts he had in his mind as he saw everyone gather into their groups. He was actually fine if he ended up not working with anyone but himself. Unlike them he held no resentment toward them, he really didn't care. Most of them were Humans. However, within this mix were a couple of Minks and Fishman. The three major races within this strange world we live within. Usually, those three are the ones that didn't get along or despised each other. Racism running rampant within this world. Only the common enemy that was the Three Eye clan switched this racism toward just one set group. Hannibal would applaud the unison if it wasn't directed at him honestly.

Renero made his way past, trying to find an empty seat. He was unsure who the target of this malice was, if not to the bulking figures of the Fishman, who seemed to relish the damp or some other outsider, wrapped under layers and hidden from sight. He didn’t really mind the cold, yet wet fur made him heavier, less agile for what to come.

As he found a deserted spot, he swept at the empty bench with his tail, a futile attempt to clear it off the wetness; as the dry was showered once more in an instant. Although his legs were cramped from the dash he had done to reach the vessel, he did not fancy getting his pants wet too, although at this rate there was not going to be much of him left dry. The rainfall had gotten worse since they left port and the unrest was clearly rising between the huddled mass, their mutterings growing louder and louder.

He turned his back towards the mass, pacing his way further up the deck and near the prow, moving past a lanky figure that ley resting on the side, maybe seasick, or maybe enjoy the view; albeit the stormy winds made even the once peaceful sea uneasy.

The ship soon hit land, and they made their way down upon a skerry, followed by shouts to form up into squads. As he landed on the flooded soil, he found himself behind the lanky figure once more.

Yet, it seemed they were three short of a squad.

They began to move out. Begrudgingly three Marines would join within the squad the Mink and Three eye Man. Most of the company would move in a straight line. A few groups in the front would be sent out to scout ahead. Only around ten would stay behind to watch the vessel they used to get here.

"So, seems we are the least liked." Hannibal would say to the Mink( Renero). He'd say this before he would start walking with the rest of the group. If the Mink walked at the same pace as Hannibal they could have a conversation whilst they walked. Hannibal didn't speak in a hushed tone he was somewhat yelling. With how the weather was if you tried to whisper you'd be drowned out by wild wind and beating rain.

Hannibal dressed somewhat appropriate for the weather today. He had on boats that would make their treck through the mudding camp and soon forest. His pants and trench coat were the only parts of his attire that matched the color of his boats. That color being black. His shirt, however, was a dark blue and on the back of his trench coat was the Marine insignia in white.

"I count over sixty."

"Roger that. I'll have those stationed within the camp to make a move."

"Roger, Roger. "

This conversation would be between the enemies of the Marines that just arrived to this Island. They weren't Revoluanires. They weren't Pirates. Who they were and what they wanted would be let known when the time came. If the Marines would be able to even survive the ambush that was about to happen.

The cold wind began to whip against their faces, clearing the blanket of fog only to usher in rain in the faces of the approaching platoon. Renero pulled his cloak tighter to him, minute arcs of Electro springing from his limbs; a little trick he had learned to keep warm and a bit dry. He had not been told much about whatever this mission entailed, simply that his presence would be required for an upcoming undertaking and to make haste to the other side of the isle and time to prepare was limited, especially for a flash storm.

Lightning boomed in the distance as if to mock Renero’s controlled bursts of galvanism. Even if this venture turned out to be nothing more than an uneventful patrol, the conditions would make it hellish at best; Albeit Renero knew very well that you wouldn’t assemble fifty marines just to patrol.

A voice rose next to Renero, finding himself face to face with the lanky man, only now he could clearly see his face up close. A gaunt face, skin pulled tight over his skull; yet it was his third eye that put sense in his remark. “Once the lead starts flying, hopefully, that will change.” He husked back, albeit the pair shouting it was difficult to hear each other on the bellowing storm.

Renero was cloaked in white, justice fluttering at his back as it lay resting on the shoulder of his blue pinstriped suit, his pants tucked into the shaft of mud spluttered leather boots; the only piece of attire he had time to get in preparation for this weather.

"No, some things never change. Regardless of the circumstances." Hannibal would say as he turned away. He didn't know his third eye was out and would close it. It was enough that his face was already being beaten by rain. No need to have all eyes to witness the weather. He was calm and relaxed. He wanted to save the lives that came here for and nothing else. He didn't care about the hate he was getting as that wasn't the reason he was brought into the Marines. He fought for the people. Even those that would spit on him. There though was an extent to his kindness. As he knew he couldn't save everyone within this world.

He would keep his head down from now on till everything calmed down. 'I got a bad feeling.' Hannibal would think to himself as he would keep moving forward. It wasn't the weather that started to get him on edge, part of it was what the Mink said. In a way, Hannibal felt they were going to be jinxed now. He hoped they could actually stop and wait out the weather, as it showed no sign of slowing down. Rather it picked up at an alarming pace. Hannibal was equipped to fight within this weather, but he didn't know if the others were.

Their movements would be made with the utmost care. Concealed by their environment. The Weather played the largest role in their concealment. Their stomping muffled from the rain, thunder, and wind. They kept a moderate distance, ten meters, from those walking in their line. Those they sent to scout ahead had already been neutralized. So there was no way to know of them being around. In total their number at this moment was half that of the Marines. Split up into four groups. Only one group wasn't concealed right now, as they moved to the back of the walking Marine force. They wanted to surround them. The buildings in this area were either one story or two stories. And they littered the path the Marines were taking right now. As the Marines were heading toward the forest and had to traverse through the camp to get there.

"First group Fire."

They would move toward the windows, and motion their guns either downward or at an angle. Whatever the position required for them to get a good shot. They would unleash a volley of bullets at the first half of the Marine forces. And words of them being under fire would quickly spread down to everyone within the group.

It was cynical and hard-bitten but Renero knew it to be true. The crucible that was battle burned away most ill feelings and forged bonds of brotherhood that weren’t easily broken, yet some hatred was too deep-seated inside for even the horrors of battle to wash away. Renero didn’t want to dispute that and even if he did, he knew well enough how futile it was.

As he gave the man a second look, not to awe and gawk at his oddity, but simply because he wanted to agree; yet his gaze went to the men’s forehead naturally, only to find it simply a forehead. Two eyes, one nose and a mouth.

Was it his imagination? A dream leaden with the dark reality of his life? He looked around, trying to find hints of a broken reality. The surroundings shifted, the rocky coast now turned into verdant buildings, wooden shacks and steeples; a seemingly abandoned outpost halfway through the lush forest; the tree providing cover against the rainfall, the mist having dispersed yet the air was filled with the quivering trees, the rip of thunder in the distance echoing all through the rocky plains, the tremble under his feet.

A strange dream, strong on the senses, He could feel the dirt under his feet, the sluggishness of his body under the weight of the wet fur, the smell of rain. Was the Mystery Lady and her gift of the Den Den part of this dream too?

It was then that the shots rang out.

Not allowed to continue their journey the conflict that began within the camp would delay the Marines. The ambush claiming the lives of five and injuring ten. Return fire would be made to cover a retreat into other buildings, as being on this road left them open. And unknowing to them more forces were coming to this area. Things had heated up despite the weather and if the Marines weren't careful they could perish.

"TAKE COVER!"

Hannibal would hear that and would motion for those around to go into the building to his right, the door was broken down and would be easy to enter. As he did that those from behind would be there. The enemy had made the road deadly. They would take aim at the mass of Marines and fire. Hannibal didn't really think at this moment, not that much. He would be pushed by a Marine. It could've come out of spit or terror, Hannibal didn't know. But it caused him only to be able to react in one way as a couple bullets collided and crack his body. There was no saving him from this push due to the position that he was in. And his body would fall forward into the muddy ground.

"COME ON MINK!" One Marine would call to the Mink before the bullets from behind would come. They wanted to use his size. And motioned for him to follow them to up the street a bit. He was free to do what he wanted. But, they would remember what he does. With how the groups were made those of importance was at the head of the group. And making sure their superior officers(except Hannibal) were fine from the ambush.

The head of the marine that was a few meters of Renero bursting into a shower of gore, the spray of crimson tainting the fog. That was enough for Renero to kick into action, his honed bestial instincts priming him to dive into a roll to the side, the result of his training giving his dash incredible haste, finding cover behind a thick tree trunk. Although his body has reacted, his mind was still orienting itself with the reality of the situation as shots smashed into the bark behind him.

He had trained both his mind and body to react to such a situation in tandem with his instincts since the events that transpired on Seatrain from Alabasta to Water 7. His “comrades” were shouting for him to move forward, the lead splintering bark behind him and the faint droplets of rain dripping from the leafy maple branches above. Through the undergrowth he could no longer see the distinctive silhouette of the tall figure of the mysterious three-eyed man; Had he been felled by the initial wave of shots? Renero felt that to be unlikely, yet he would only know after these scum were dealt with.

The shots suppressing his position had fallen in a pattern; giving Renero the ability to guess the timing of the shots. He loosened his hands, the pointed tips growing into claws. With great haste but a sure grip, he began to rise up the tree; the rustling of the raindrops serving as his cover as he made his ascent and masking the swaying of the tree with that of the wind.

All Marines were under fire. Many had fallen from the initial assault but as a whole, they were able to recover and seek appropriate cover from the volleys. Their training came into play in this situation as they were told something like this would happen one day.

Hannibal would lay motionless, deep in thought. 'This is the second time I've been shot....But it doesn't hurt. I, however, was shocked that I was able to react as quickly as I did.' Hannibal would begin to move now, however just slightly. Lifting his head from the mud to look and see the enemy. They weren't out in the open for long as they fired, moving into cover in anticipation of return fire. He saw that also there was another Marine not that far away, squirming on the ground and crying out. This had to be his first time getting shot. The pain he was going through resonated with Hannibal, as he was once in that spot. From the sound of his cries, Hannibal could decipher the youth in his voice. He would begin to crawl over to the boy. Part of his face was covered in mud and he'd have to close one of his eyes and open his third. Hannibal could hear bullets wiz overheard, but he didn't stop. If they wanted to kill him really they would've aimed for his body. They were targeting those still up and able to put up a fight.

He'd reach over to the guy, and he would be full of life. Rising up and grabbing him he would rush to his left. Bullets now came his way, and the risk of getting his was high at this moment. But, he would have his outer areas that the bullets would collide with turned to ice. He had to keep a clear balance as he didn't want to freeze the person he was helping get to cover. They'd tumble into the building. "Okay, yo-"

Fear seemed to cover Man's face as he looked up to Hannibal. Seeing his third eye cause him to use what energy he had to frantically move backward. With their position, his motion backward cause him to place himself in the doorway opening. And bullets would pierce him in varies areas. Hannibal knew why the Boy moved away and he hated himself for it. He should've kept his third eye closed. If he did that maybe he wouldn't have been recognized. And then maybe the Boy wouldn't have died.

Lead continued to pound the tree rind, yet the shots were lessening at the lack of movement as if to bait him out into the open or maybe doubts forming on his position. Although from his vantage point he couldn’t see much of what was happening below, the shrieks of pain that rose gave him a clear image of how the tide of battle lay currently. A few more stray shots panged off the tree, digging deep into the wood.

Renero pushed his knees forward, putting his weight onto the tree, the shot up trunk splintering as he slowly rose on his haunches, his claws pulling out from trunk; his paws digging deeper in the bark as sized the fall downwards. A risky maneuverer, but better than facing the gunfire head on. At the end of the day, he got promoted for “ingenuity”, not simply for staying alive; albeit his death would be a great hindrance would he want to progress further up the marine ranks.

The sway of the tree turned into a fall before Renero could jump down; his weight too much for the mangled tree to bear. The conifer cut down through the mists as it made its way downwards towards the thatch roof of the hut below, Renero riding the trunk as if was a drawbridge, his body tensed to the strength of iron. The ramshackle shack offered little resistance, exploding in a puff of twigs and splinters; the unlucky rifleman who didn’t have the foresight to jump out the windows crushed into a crimson pulp.

It grew quite after some time, the occasional discharge could be heard. But, it wasn't as constant as before. The conflict, for the time being, had slowed. Hannibal at this moment was shocked but not frozen, he didn't enjoy seeing another die but he couldn't do anything now. They were beyond anything he could possibly do to save them. He would slowly get to his feet and rush over to the window, gazing out with caution. He would see that the muddy street they had walked had been littered with some bodies. And walking around them were those that attacked. Most if not all the Marines within the group had retreated upward, lost their lives, or where scattered alone or in small groups. The forces in the front that had attacked them had been taken care of, the Marines not the only ones losing help. Their position edge closer to the forest.

"Phase two, move to phase two." An Enemy would say as they stopped and pulled out a Den Den mushi. His position wasn't that far from Hannibals, so Hannibal could hear what he said clearly. This entire ordeal ran deeper than everyone thought. Something else was at play here and it could be deadly if not found out before too late.

Hannibal wouldn't leave his position, he didn't need to. He took count of how many were in the street now, the number is close to fifteen. That number had increased as more people began to come out of nowhere to join them. 'I can take them. But, I want to see them say something else.....spill some more information, that I don't have to force out of you.' Hannibal would think to himself.

The pearly mist was at once tainted with splinters, dirt and a dash of blood; tainting it a dark umber in the aftermath of the lumber crashing into the structure below. Although Renero had kept his balance as equally as his cool, the impact to the ground had sent him flying off the log, slamming him onto the muddy floor below. Even though he had steeled himself for the impact, he was still greatly dazed by this; caked in mud and blood, albeit seemingly mostly not his own. The feeling started to come back to his body, his body having just absorbed the shock of the slam before it started turning back into its normal hardness, and with that feeling came quite a bit of pain, snaking all over his back.

Yet his time for respite and refocusing came soon at an end, as a snapping sound, akin to one carelessly stepping on a twig, came from his vicinity. Albeit the air was now too polluted to be able to use his sense of smell to locate this foe; his sense of hearing was still mostly intact. His legs seemed to be unable to find a good grip in the muddy dirt, be it a mix of numbness and the blood of a nearby crushed insurgent making the vicinity even slicker; so Renero resorted to slowly clawing up the fallen trunk, hoisting his upper body till his feet found purchase. The stealthed steps, at least as much as Renero could make out from the sounds of fighting were even closer, patches of shadow showing all around.
